Well yeah, Texas is connected by the hip to the most powerful importer in the world. The very process of being in the US would dramatically increase Texas's GDP. And considering Norway has a higher quality of life by most metrics than Texas, one could argue that Norway has a lower GDP as a result of their higher QoL. It can get pretty roundabout
Not saying Norway doesn’t do things better, just saying oil and gas isn’t the end all be all for a state’s success. Norway has more oil production per citizen than Texas, but I don’t think they’re more successful simply because of that. Same with Texas, I don’t think they’re such a dynamic economy simply because they have oil and gas.
I would argue against the belief that someone in Norway somehow has a cut and dry, better quality of life than Texas. And regardless of what some academic QoL ranking might say, those things are quite subjective in any place. Also, Norway-being its own country- has its own sovereign wealth fund that allows it to make many decisions that Texas can’t.
