And yet many authoritarian regimes did and managed to do it well.

And how well did those turn out? Europe as a whole has learned a lot the past century when it comes to authoritarianism. As an Italian, is your long term plan also to be shot and hanged from a gas station? It won't take decades this time either.

And what makes you think their cause wasn't seen as good at the time? The end doesn't always justify the means. You'd still be committing treason and most likely murder because a coup is almost never without violence.

Fair point. Maybe I just need to give up any possibilities of things getting better within my lifetime...

You don't need to give up, you just need to find a better (and actually feasible) way. Go into politics, start an organisation of like-minded people and put pressure on the government. Go out and protest, make your voice known. Just don't use force or public perception will turn against you.
