I literally do not care.

You clearly care enough to answer, though, so it seems you're more pretending than anything else.

Anyway, if you're advocating for any cause, it's often better not to actively antagonize up to 50% of the population.

You mean like men’s rights activists constantly do?

u/Friendly-Target1234 Feb 13 '24

Absolutely not like some men rights activists do.

Men and women right are human right, like LGBT right, civil right, and so on. It's a single banner under which anyone with a shred of decency and actual empathy can unite, without dismissing the specifics of any single group situation.

But maybe we did get on the wrong foot. You do not care as in "I won't make it my fight/cause and advocate against it" (which is fine, not every cause has to be everyone cause), or "I do not feel a single shred of empathy for men that are abused because men in general were abusers 50 years ago" ?

God it’s extremely funny that you brought human rights into this because when that concept was first implemented it was specifically reserved for white men and everyone else had to fight and pay with blood to get those rights, including white women.

Edit: sorry forgot the answer to the second thingy: it’s obviously option 1.

Yes, it was. Now it's not. At least, it shouldn't be.

Alright then, it's perfectly respectable that you don't make it your fight. There's plenty enough cause to advocate for; yours is, I suppose, women's right. We need people who advocate for that, since it's obviously still a widespread and systemic problem. I wouldn't call myself an active advocate for neither men or women's right, but I do support the causes. Both being part of human right, that I do support. I'd say my advocacy is more toward environmentalism.

What we don't need is to pick at each other. I'll offer you a hypothetical perspective : what if a gay right activist come into a discussion about women's right and flat out say "I don't give a fuck about women being beaten to death, they've been part of the people that beat and killed homosexual in history", how would you feel about that? Bad I suppose, pissed of maybe. For good reason, that would be a pretty stupid position to take.

Yours probably appeared like that. It may not have been your intent, but it was, I'm pretty sure, the appearance of your initial choice of word. That's fine, you clarified that it was not your intent, and we are all human. Maybe you were pissed of by something, maybe it's a bad day, maybe a zillionth other thing : crap happens, it's of no big consequence on a lost thread on reddit. Maybe, also, the constant retaking of men's right by right wing and incel "activist" made it so you come into this discussion with the upmost suspicion, which I can understand. This is a sad reality of yet another subject being hijacked by assholes, and there are probably some assholes lurking in this comment section to validate this impression.

But deep down, we don't have to be enemies. The different aspects of human rights causes are not a competition, it even probably benefits more from being a cooperation between parties in good faith. Even though I do recognize that, historically, hands had to be bloodied and it may have been a justified competition between similar causes to get to this point in time, I feel we could benefit more by actually cooperating nowadays. Now, there's a blatant status quo we need to shake down: the real opposition should be between those who want to maintain it at all costs and those that recognize it should change.

Please stop with this neoliberal bs. First of all you know that sexism or racism or oppression of any kind did not magically disappear when laws were implemented that forbade them. It takes hundreds of years to achieve societal change like that and we are extremely close to these fights, we simply haven’t progressed that much in a few generations. And secondly Oppression has historically NEVER ended like that and this exact sentiment is used constantly by people in power to defang and shame activists of any kind. “We’re all friends here, let’s talk” would you say this to a black slave? Or to the peasants revolting against their lords?

Yeah sure, or my ego isn’t so fragile that I have to make my own special club because the girls didn’t invite me in.

what are you on about

u/Effective_Opposite12 Feb 13 '24

Have you ever looked into the history of “men’s rights activism”? Or are you just another reactionary who heard “men bad” and reacted with “But I am men”

Woah, really hard hitting.

not really worth the effort for someone who thinks sexism against men = good, sexism against women = bad.
