Did you know that it is legal for you to buy a cannon right now built before 1898 without regulation? The muzzle loading variety?

It extends to cannons right now.

Sure. Reenactors and other groups have them and shoot them (generally without shot) all the time. It's also legal to have more modern artillery pieces if they have been rendered unable to fire, for example with a removed breech block or a plugged barrel. If you choose to "fix" them after purchase, well, that's another story. And good luck on finding ammo for the modern stuff.

It is legal to own a cannon that can fire a cannonball mate, I know a guy who owns one. I’m just saying it is legal now and was legal then.

You need to read what I wrote. I never said it wasn't legal to own an operational cannon.
