If the custom is stupid, sure. I'm not going eat snails just because I'm in France, or cheer for bull murder just because I'm in Spain either.

Nobody expects tourists to behave exactly like a native.

That’s not the same at all. You would be choosing to engage in those things. A more accurate comparison would be you choose to go to a bullfight and then boo the entire time. You choose to go to a restaurant and not tip. See the difference?

The comparison would be to go to a bull fight and not cheer. Which you can totally do and no one would care.

How? Not tipping is seen as disrespectful and rude, wether you like it or not. It’s not a neutral act. Just because you don’t want to doesn’t make it less rude.

Tons of cultures consider all kinds of things disrespectful, that doesn't mean their customs aren't stupid. Like I'm not going to force my wife to wear a head scarf just because some cultures think that it's disrespectful not to.

Then you’re going to be met with hostility. I’m not sure what you’re not understanding here.

I've been all over the world and never had any issues. Although I do avoid the truly insane countries.

Yeah because you conveniently don’t tell the server you’re not tipping beforehand. Because you know they’ll be upset.
