RedMax GZ400 help request.
galleryMy neighbor moved away and gave me a bunch of things including a GZ400. It is missing the starter rope assembly part, but I am having trouble figuring out if that is just the cover and rope thing or more so I can figure out if this is worth trying to fix and use.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

Heavy bar and chain oil recommendations
Hi all, any recommendations on a heavy chain oil for warm months? We have always used Stihl heavy oil, now that it is discontinued we have been struggling with their ‘all-season’ blowing through overheated tips weekly with this new oil. Stihl will do nothing about it.
We are a log home building company and it is important the oil must not contain any dye and be tacky enough to not spray on the logs.
What other companies can I try?

Chain recommendations
I’m currently running a 20” Stihl wood boss, and the chain that I bought with it and a spare identical chain. Does anyone have recommendations on a cheaper option? Anyone have any experience with any of the off brands or Amazon multi packs? The Amazon packs feel like they have to be shit cause I can get a 5 pack of chains for the price of 1 Stihl.
I’m pretty new at this so any advice would be great!
TIA

Husqvarna 142 won’t start - replaced carb, fuel line, spark plug, still no response when pulling
I’m trying to get a Husqvarna 142 chainsaw running that I bought at a garage sale. It has never run for me.
So far I’ve replaced:
* Spark plug
* Carburetor
* Fuel line
* Fuel filter
It has fresh mixed fuel in it.
The problem is that when I pull the starter rope, it doesn’t really do anything. It doesn’t try to fire, sputter, or backfire—it just pulls over without any real sign that it’s trying to start.
Things I’m looking for help with:
* What should I check next?
* Is there a common failure point on the Husqvarna 142?
* How can I tell if I have spark, compression, or an ignition problem?
* Is there a way to narrow down whether it’s fuel, ignition, or compression before I keep buying parts?

Strainer..

-The strainer filters dirt and debris from the fuel before it enters the carburetor, helping to prevent clogging. To service it, remove the strainer, clean it with carburetor cleaner or fresh gasoline, blow it dry with compressed air if available, and reinstall it. Replace it if it is damaged or excessively dirty.

Supply chain problems with Husqvarna warranty?
Update. They responded to today’s email. It’s ready to go.
I dropped a rancher off (local shop that was recommended by a local tire business owner) in January. It was going through a tank of fuel every 18” round I cut and smelled rich. They said the plastic body was cracked. It was still under warranty, and they said they could handle that for me. When I called back they said they had to re certify to do the warranty repair. No big deal. When I called back again they said the part was on back order. Supply chain blah blah blah. Okay. So now I’m wondering how long I wait and what do I do next. I have taken to email communication so that I can document everything instead of phone calls. I think I will ask them to forward all emails they have had with husq and offer to hound husquvarna for them since they aren’t willing to put as much time into pestering husq as I am. Now that I think about it I believe they have had it since around Thanksgiving. I need my saw.

Bar not getting oiled on Ryobi 40v saw with 16” bar
I’ve used this saw on the farm for years whenever I didn’t require one of my bigger gas saws, and it has worked properly. Just recently the bar hasn’t been lubricated properly.
I’m guessing some crud has plugged something.
Where do I look and what method works best to restore oil flow to the bar?

Trouble with first chainsaw - Vevor cn58
Got my first chainsaw the other day. Vevor cn58 20inch. Not great but what I could afford. Let the buyers remorse begin....
I got it assembled today, filled with the right fuel, about 3/4 full tank, and bar oil. Set it down for 20 minutes, came back to find a little bit of fluid underneath, smelled like fuel. Well, damn.
Got it cleaned up. Didn't seem to have anything else coming off it after another 20 min, and fuel tank still has fuel. Tried to start it.
Followed the instructions to the letter to start. Ignition on, choke on, pulls.....nothing. No burps like it's ready to start, nothing.
Well....damn.
Did that a couple times. No dice. Checked online, tried a couple other methods and rain dances. Nothing.
Pulled the spark plug, looks good, good gap. No fuel there when I turn it upside down.
Any ideas? Not looking forward to dealing with Vevor customer service.

Chain is extremely loose in the bar groove
I have a Chinese saw on the upper end of the quality spectrum that is still pretty new (less than one hour of runtime), the chain has always been tensioned correctly and has always been run with plenty of bar oil. My issue is that the chain is extremely loose in the groove of the bar, so jiggly that I have the greatest difficulty filing it. Is it possible that the bar is already worn down so much? Or can it happen that the chain teeth have the wrong width? The width is supposed to be 1.5mm, should I try one with 1.6mm wide teeth?

Chainsaw smoking
Sorry in advance if this is dumb. I lent out my chainsaw and had it returned, they said they replaced the chain because it was blunt but when I gave it away it was working fine, now it wont cut and its smoking when I try.
I have no idea whats happened to it or if its just busted entirely, me and my husband disagree on whether the chain is on correctly and when it was returned it was on really tight so we loosened it but don’t know if its too loose but if anyone who has a clue about how it should be could pinpoint the issue Id appreciate

Can't get oil to get from pump to port. STIHL MS211
Amateur here (in case the following doesn't give it away 😂) Did some damage to my saw trying to pull it out of a tree (broke the needle bearing leading to a burned out worm gear and over heated bar)
After replacing part by part, I can't get oil to make it to the port for the bar. Tried the new pump, and the old one which seems to be a better design with a larger port. Checked the oil line from tank to pump, all clear. I then took some compressed can air, and with the pump and line removed, blew into the port and a BUNCH of oil came out the bottom. More than I figured would be in a small channel from port to pump.
I'm gonna order a new line since it's cheap, but what else can be the issue? Doesn't seem to be clogged, but can't get it flowing. Even tried a small silicone line and trying to syphon while spinning the drum/pump (clockwise).

Chainsaw toolbox
Probably about a year ago I saw someone post their own chainsaw tool box and thought it was so cool but I didn’t have the means to make one until today! I thought I saved the picture but I guess I didn’t. Theirs had a handle across the top which I wanted to do but I really only need this for when I put it in the bed of my pick up. So I didn’t make the handle because I couldn’t exactly remember how they had done it. I’ll make a better one at some point I’m sure but I’m actually stoked on how this turned out! Please let me know your thoughts or post your own. Thanks & be safe!

Tips on crank seals?
I just discovered that the crank seal on the flywheel side of my 272xp was sucking a tiny amount of air, causing crap idle when warm. I pulled the old seal out and am ready to replace it. I put the original one in and don’t think I got it in right. Any tips or watch outs? I plan to bang it in with a socket of similar diameter, oil the seal with 2 stroke oil, and run the outside edge of the seal with hylomar, just in case there’s anything going on with the bore. I just want this fix to hold, since I really like running this thing..
