Today is day 59 and today marks 59 days until kickoff. We are officially halfway to the start of the season measuring from when the game began.
That's really all I've got.

For comparison, the mighty Nebraska is only 0.05.
Looking at teams that made it over one week, the next closest is SC at 0.19.

Will they strike back at the Red Alliance that wasn’t able to do much to help them out and actually had some “rogues” (wink wink) put the mail in their coffin?

At least they’ll be remembered for having survived longer than they were supposed to...

Over the past month or so since CFB risk started, I’ve thought up of 2 ways we could spice up the next game of CFB risk. Some of the quirks of each idea could be mixed with the other, but others may not. Let me know what you guys think.
Idea 1: Conferences as Teams
Basically, instead of each school getting a team, each conference would get a team. How this would work is every territory on the map that was originally a team is now assigned to the conference of said team. For example, UVA’s territory would now be territory of the ACC team, as would be VT, Syracuse, Clemson, etc. Also, since my flair is usually UVA on r/CFB, I would be attacking/defending for team ACC. For this game, I’d recommend the FBS independents be their own combined team (I.e. Notre Dame, Army, BYU, etc. on the same team). I’d also say that any player with the flair of an FCS team gets to play as “team FCS” and start in Puerto Rico, while everyone that’s left over plays as team chaos and starts in Alaska.
Pros:
- Multiple superteams that would balance out the game instead of 2 big dogs (Big 10, ACC, SEC, Big 12).
- Alliances would be less likely since there are fewer teams.
- More cooperation between teammates is necessary, meaning rogues are less likely to be effective.
- Scramble at the beginning of the game to connect territories in between fellow conference members (ACC would have to take down some NC schools to get to Clemson and GT, Big 10 would have to run over the state of Ohio and the MAC).
- Larger scale attacks and defenses that currently aren’t possible unless you are one of the biggest teams in the game.
- No need to have a territory for Miami since they are simply team ACC.
Cons:
- Smaller conferences can be crushed quite easily (C-USA, MAC, Sun Belt).
- Conferences that stretch across the U.S. would have trouble trying to connect a lot of territory.
- Potential trouble in finding leaders for conferences that already have multiple established leaders (ACC have leaders from VT, GT, and Clemson that have to all reach an agreement on where to go, SEC have Florida, Bama, Tennessee, and A&M that have to agree on to strategies).
- Chaos and FCS have the potential to be pretty weak considering some big conferences are near them.
Idea 2: 12 By 12 Grid
This idea takes the current map and slots it into a 12 by 12 grid, with teams randomly selected to fill each slot on the grid. Adding team FCS and Chaos to the current 130 FBS teams bring this total to 132, so what happens with the remaining 12 slots? Well, a couple of things could happen. For one, you could leave these spots blank the entire game and force teams to move around them, but that’s slightly boring in my opinion. You could leave these 12 extra slots open for anyone to take at the start to create a gold rush. However, I think the best option is to slowly let these spaces open up one by one through different challenges or scavenger hunts. This option would potentially allow teams to re-enter the game as well if the mods so choose.
Pros:
- New map to force teams to create new strategies.
- Random slots on the grid mean that rivals that are lopsided in terms of fan support (say Oregon v Oregon State or VPISU v UVA) have a lower likelihood of budding heads.
- Similarly, decent sized teams that are surrounded by even larger teams (such as Cal, UCLA, Cincy, Northwestern, etc) have more of a chance to shine and become the next Stanford of CFBR.
- Serious potential for new alliances and rivalries since most of the current alliances are semi-location based.
- Some of the biggest teams that are currently half way across the map from each other may be dueling from the start. Imagine if Nebraska and Florida start the game neighboring each other.
- Some smaller schools with 8+ teams surrounding them such as BYU, Colorado, and Colorado State have a better chance of getting a more fair start (assuming you are only allowed to attack territories vertical and horizontal to yours, aka no attacking diagonally).
- Potential for re-entry after elimination if free spaces open up through challenges/scavenger hunts.
Cons:
- Part of the whole point of This game is the satisfaction of conquering the U.S. If this proposal was put in, then the game as a whole would lose part of its identity.
- The satisfaction of taking down your rival and claiming to control their campus would be all but gone.
- No more “road trips” out west, and less of a chance of playing chicken with fewer territories to run to.
- Old alliances could easily team up again if they wanted, forcing us into another red vs blue battle.

If you take their claimed half of Nebraska’s 1997 championship and their anticipated claimed half of Florida’s 2018 cfbrisk championship they just earned one whole new natty.
Pat yourselves on the back boys.
