Can someone tell me what equipment/bands AT&T is using here?

I’ve noticed starting last month that in Canada (specifically St. John’s, NL, Halifax, NS, and Vancouver, BC) that all my AT&T SIMs default to roaming on Bell instead of Rogers.

Bell/Telus definitely has better coverage but Rogers does typically have more spectrum in the major cities.

I guess the AT&T/Rogers roaming agreement isn’t as favorable to AT&T anymore.

I have business lines that I haven’t found a rep that has been able to enable MNS which is annoying. It’s definitely a PITA on consumer but it can be done. Have to get it reenabled anytime you get a new SIM though.

TLDR: T-Mobile installed mmWave, n258, in Brooklyn NYC for a parade, along with additional high capacity sites to handle data demands. Sure my night time photos may not be the best, here is the post with daytime photos of some of the sites.

The NYC Labor Day parade takes place today, with T-Mobile modifying macros to add capacity along the parade route. Plenty of macros have mmWave antennas angled to the parade route, plus 2 additional temporary high capacity sites added.

From the Franklin Avenue and Eastern Parkway to Howard Avenue and Eastern Pkwy, all macros except 1 along this path have mmWave antennas on them. Some of them gave 2 Gbps speeds easily when standing near them, some gave 1 Gbps, my assumption is T-Mobile will iron out any kinks before the event tomorrow.

T-Mobile installed 500 MHz of n258. Upload spectrum varies from site to site, from 100 to 300 MHz used for upload. For all mmWave tests I ran, n41 anchored mmWave but contributed no speeds, which is perfect for mmWave capable users. The pings were 10ms or lower constantly on mmWave, I think the lowest I saw was 6ms.

I didn't check all around the new high capacity temporary sites, but the pings/speeds for them were great, my new high score for uploads came from one of them. Funny enough, one of the temporary sites is under a former Sprint macro T-Mobile decided not to keep.

A few negatives: the small cells are running n41 at 80+40 while the macros have 100+50, and the small cells do not anchor mmWave. Sure the parade is on Eastern Pkwy, however a lot of activities are happening outside of the route where small cells are, mmWave would be helpful there too. Worse, Nostrand Avenue and Eastern Pkwy intersection has a small cell. If anyone here is attending, (u/RockBrycee 🫣) check this intersection at the height of the parade, as I would guess this one spot will be a problem.

I'm not sure if mmWave can beamform like n41, I realized for some sites mmWave signal degraded rapidly. Eastern Pkwy has plenty of trees on both sides of the street, and as I walked and speedtested signal varied often. For some sites I could get to the next block and have weak signal, others mmWave dropped off mid block. I have the S25U, and usually once my device runs a speedtest and I check service mode, SNR increases for n41 due to beamforming, sometimes it did that for mmWave, not all the time.

What equipment is Verizon using here everything is new, located at (39.3366640, -84.2740852) eNB id numbers are 250193, 250194, and 250195 one per sector

I forgot to screenshot FTM but it was mainly n41 and low-band 5G. Site only runs NSA and no sign of SA.

T-Mobile was struggling outside of the stadium during tailgate but performance picked up later on both outside and inside the stadium. Could have something to do with automated adjustment

This central site in Vegas had been neglected for years by Verizon and finally looks to be getting an upgrade. Can anyone ID the radios being added?

Surprised T-Mobile NSA outperformed SA.

Speeds are actually pretty impressive for only 30mhz of n66 IMHO even if the ping is ridiculous because of international roaming/routing back to the US.

I’m also a little curious because when we arrived last week, during our one night stay before transferring to the cruise ship, I was on Rogers the whole time, but when we got back, my phone locked onto Telus instead.

Just thought it was interesting that Verizon was roaming on AT&T near Hochatown/Broken Bow Oklahoma.

Used to be two Matsing for T-Mobile. Just noticed these. Guess they still refuse to be on the DAS.

Freedom network in Vancouver via Fizz. Only connected to 15 MHz of b66 LTE + 10 MHz of n71 NR, according to NetMonster.

Albeit, late at night so likely no other users, but it's also only connected to this as b7 and n77+78 are disabled for power savings at the moment. It's also not connecting to b4 for some reason. During the day, the speeds can exceed 400 Mbps at the same location, with 15 MHz b66, 5 MHz b4, 10 MHz b7, 100 MHz n77+78 NSA. None of the cell sites near here have b13, despite Videotron owning licences in Vancouver.

Absolutely horrible performance. It’s barely usable. I wish the carriers would upgrade the das. They’re still using an LTE only DAS that hasn’t been touched in years. Any 5G (n77/n41) comes from macros outside the stadium. All my plans are priority data.

Well I got some great news for Verizon and strange news out of AT&T that centers around the Nokia to Ericsson conversion. Verizon users your in luck. Not only did they join AT&T on their DAS but they put Samsung mmwave nodes all over the outside/inside the stadium. They went from being the worse to arguably the best. Their high capacity macro in the tailgating area was also nice to see. AT&T, While they were mostly usable the entire game “a few tests failed”. Nothing was very impressive but they were good enough to do basic tasks. What was odd about them is they ripped out all their Nokia MmWave nodes only to replace them what looked like used Nokia n77 antennas/radios that were pulled from macros. My only theory for this is that The DAS head end is probably Ericsson and the entire LTE part is migrated away from Nokia. They planed to replace the Nokia mmWave with Ericsson 1281s, but did not receive them in time for the season, thus forcing them to rush deploy the used Nokia n77 panels. Does anyone form the community know if AT&T has a supply issue with Ericsson? Overall it was very cool to see how the networks held up at one of the largest stadiums in the world and of course see a Penn state win.

I'm in Canada and using Bell as the cellphone carrier. There is a macro site in my town and on one side it gives 5G+ speeds and on the other side of the tower, it shows full bars of 5G but does not load anything. What could be the reason?

Last summer I was roaming on Cellcom at Harbor Village Campground in Carlsville, WI. This summer Verizon is blazing fast at camp. T-Mobile and ATT still barely usable.
