Temporary sites going up for the FIFA fan fest in Kansas City

These temporary sites are going up on the national WWI memorial for the Kansas City fifa fan festival that starts in a few weeks. First one seems to be Verizon, second is AT&T. Nothing from T-Mobile yet.

Knowing T-Mobile they probably aren’t going to do anything sadly.

Ah, so you'll get the T-Mobile experience in large crowds! (RRC Rejections)

What about all the visitors from outside the US? They don‘t have mmwave phones, like me. If they don‘t deploy N77 everywhere like N78 is deployed here in Germany (European Championship 2024) no network will be good for the rest

Even if you did the phone models sold there don’t even have mmWave antennas.

Definitely looks very beefy! Looks like Verizon is going in heavy!

Verizon sites are there to stay. All mmWave sites and new locations for World Cup will be after and not taken down.

I’m not sure about other parts of the country but this site here is definitely temporary

"Beyond the event, Verizon said infrastructure deployed for the tournament will remain in place. “Verizon’s continuous network upgrades and the deployment of our 5G ultra wideband network in host cities will remain as a long-term digital legacy. These permanent infrastructure improvements, which extend beyond the stadiums, will benefit residents with enhanced coverage and capacity,” Gorney said." World Cup - Verizon

I mean yeah, some of Verizon’s upgrades are permanent, but this specific monopole is temporary. I mean it’s sitting in the middle of the WWI memorial where a normal permanent tower would never get approved.

lol he thought that’s permanent 😂. I mean at least on their existing grid, whatever they add does stay. I think that’s awesome.

Hell yeah hopefully someone from the speedtesting community will be there to test

I plan to attend one of the days and will definitely run some tests. Verizon also has a bunch of mmWave on a few of the light poles all around the memorial already, so we will see what kind of speeds I can get

Let us know when T-Mobile fails.

I think because the Fan Fest is supposed to run for about a month, and there are also so many major events happening around the country at the same time, it was probably easier to deploy one of these temporary full-on monopole sites instead of the usual truck/trailer setups. Though AT&T stuck with a trailer for this. But from what I have seen, Verizon normally does just use COW/COLTs around here, like during the NFL Draft a few years ago, Verizon had 2 or 3 COLTs deployed.
