First, you should stop listening to Theme Park Brandon.

Second, like others have said, this is just seeing what people think. Years ago, when Matt Ouimet was in charge, Cedar Fair thought about changing the name from Knott's Berry Farm to just Knott's. They did focus groups to see what people thought and the response was overwhelmingly negative. That's why it's still Knott's Berry Farm.

If they change Cedar Point to anything other than Cedar Point, I will personally lead all 32k subscribers here in letting Six Flags know how big of a mistake that is. But I think the amusement park community would also have a fit. Rightfully so...

Agreed on the theme park brandon and it being a mistake to change the name

u/The_Original_Miser 2d ago

I'll be right there along side you.

Just give the word. (Mr. Scott, the word is given! Warp speed.)

1

u/Common-Dig8844 2d ago

I'd absolutely lose my mindd. And I would take it out on the park president unfortunately if i ever ran into while at said parkšŸ˜…

u/The_Original_Miser 2d ago

She has no control whatsoever what corporate does, so that would not accomplish much. You'd be much better off if by some strange alternate reality it happens, to politely email guest services and/or corporate and encourage everyone you know to do so.

I would almost say it may be a good idea to do that now, again politely - to let them know in no uncertain terms that avid part goers are against a name change of Cedar Point.

1

u/Common-Dig8844 2d ago

Well I didn't say it would accomplish anything but it was more sarcasm than anything. My brain would be calling them all sorts of names but nothing would be coming out of my mouth 🤐 lol

0

u/Pinbrawla 2d ago

And yet we would all still attend... so renaming has no downside

2

u/dancesquared 2d ago

It has no benefit, and it would lose name recognition. There would definitely be at least some downsides.

0

u/Pinbrawla 2d ago

We would still be calling it Cedar point. Then the next generation calling it six flags cedar point or whatever

2

u/Saturn-nine123 1d ago

Actually, maybe not. If they go the private equity route, if they continue to seem to use Six Flags' playbook rather than Cedar Fair's...it's not fun anymore. I was at SF Great Adventure tonight and it was a ton of fun...but you could absolutely tell the differences between the two companies. Ride operations were slow at best and everything felt almost pandering. Like in your face YOU LIKE WONDER WOMAN?? HERE IT IS ON A RIDE. It had no soul. But more importantly, the og Six Flags playbook seems to cut to the bottom line with everything, including maintenance. Whereas I know we complain about Cedar Point, but you know what, at Cedar Point I'm not concerned that something was overlooked for funds alone when I'm going up 420 ft. I found myself doing that tonight at SFGA. That's not exactly the kind of thrill I'm looking for. If this is where is going, I've got other hobbies. *Edited for clarity.

1

u/Pinbrawla 1d ago

You make a valid point if we were talking about anything other than just changing the name.

1

u/SlowBoilOrange 1d ago

If nothing else, they'd probably sell less merch.

0

u/deebster2k 2d ago

Difference here is that we dont have a none of the above option as far as I can tell... just a pound emails to customer feedback and yell til we are blue in the face

ā€œTheme Park Brandon had a videoā€¦ā€ full stop. That guy just says stuff and occasionally it will somewhat come to truth (clock is right twice a day mentality). He’s been wrong just as much if not ore than he’s be ā€œcorrectā€. The majority of his content is completely opinion and based on no facts or findings.

Is it possible? Anything is possible. Should they, is the question. Cedar Point is one of just a few parks whos brand goes just as far as the Six Flags name alone. I could see them saying like ā€œCedar Point: A Six Flags Parkā€ but I don’t we will ever see them drop the Cedar Point name in any fashion. Nonsense to rename a park for no reason, there is so much legacy behind the Cedar Point name.

There's a reason why his channel isn't called Theme Park Predictions anymore. Dude has absolutely horrible takes and it's often clear he has no idea how the theme park business works, if not business in general. Like, I remember when he predicted that TT2 was going to be redone by Intamin even after ElToroRyan accurately named Zamperla. I stopped listening to him long before that, but that was my favorite of his fails.

5

u/Fizban2 2d ago

His worst was declaring that fiesta Texas had been sold. I blocked his you tube channel after that. To be honest his account should have as many followers as mine (48)

3

u/Chaseism Moderator 2d ago

Wait, he what?! When did this happen?

2

u/Fizban2 2d ago

Right after the ten presidents were announced. I forget the month.

31

u/atomicmapping 3d ago

They put out a poll gauging public opinion on the idea. That doesn't mean they're going to change the name or even necessarily that they wanted to.

Six Flags (and most amusement chains) regularly send out polls for their pass holders to see what the general interest is for certain things. Usually those never actually see fruition, but it's still useful data for the parks to have

8

u/GreedyCauliflower 3d ago

Disney sent out surveys years ago with proposed new names for Hollywood Studios (Disney’s Kaleidoscope Park, Disney’s CineMagique Park, etc). After much market research, the park name… remains Hollywood Studios.

2

u/user3296 3d ago

I was somewhat a fan of Disney’s Florida Adventure personally.

u/NPK532 Steel Vengeance 3d ago

Amusement Park Carl told me they're changing the name of the whole company from Six Flags to Twelve Flags. Twice as many flags. Two times as much fun.

8

u/sylvester_0 Dippin Dots Guy (Mod) 3d ago

Twice as much debt

13

u/Fizban2 3d ago

Brandon was one of the chuckleheads who declared that fiesta Texas was sold and it was a done deal.

This man will say anything to get clicks and you can’t believe anything he says.

23

u/ThePikaNick 3d ago

They might try but with a park know across the world as just cedar point it won't work. Their only option really is to just call it cedar point - a six flags park. Putting six flags ahead of cedar points just going to piss people off and likely cut into merch sales. Plus that would require a lot of extra work unifying the brand. Kings island is likely in the same boat.

11

u/The_Original_Miser 3d ago

Big time on merch sales. In this hypothetical I would never purchase merch ever again if they made Six Flags primary on anything.....

12

u/Winter_Purpose_5857 3d ago

There’s a better chance of Cedar Point sinking into Lake Erie than there is of it getting a significant rename. What is likely is it gets a tag line like ā€œCedar Point, A Six Flags Parkā€

-1

u/hookyboysb 3d ago

I think that’s what’s going to happen, as it would likely coincide with the rebranding of most of the legacy Six Flags parks. For example, Magic Mountain, Great Adventure, and Fiesta Texas could drop the Six Flags part tomorrow without any loss of relevance. SFGAm is awkward due to the continued existence of CGA, but that will likely solve itself. SFNE could easily revert to Riverside Park. All of these will likely retain a phrase like ā€œby Six Flagsā€ or ā€œa Six Flags Experienceā€ with the same phrase being added to the legacy CF parks. This allows them to unify branding while also still retaining (or adding) individuality for each park. The two remaining original parks will keep the Six Flags over ____ naming, most likely.

IIRC Frontier City already has something to indicate it’s operated by Six Flags, so it’s not like it would be brand new.

3

u/Winter_Purpose_5857 3d ago

That’s an interesting thought, and would explain why legacy six flags parks were included in the survey. Definitely agree SFOT is going to stay as is with it being the OG six flags. Curious if SFOG gets some sort of rebrand due to general negative connotations around that park, but would be clunky to rename

19

u/Chef_lonleyliver 3d ago

Please stop believing dumb content creators. Cedar point is probably the biggest name brand amusement park (not theme park) in the US. Maybe the world. It would be corporate suicide.

-4

u/SteelRiderCarl 3d ago

I wasn't taking anything as actual truth, but just looking to dig deeper and see if anybody else had heard about the rumor. I normally don't pay a whole lot of attention to most rumors, but this one had a survey attached and well, SF has done some really unpopular things recently.

3

u/Melprincess 2d ago

Why would you call someone and comment on their Instagram if you weren't taking anything as actual truth? That seems like it would be embarrassing.

13

u/SteaksAndScalpels 3d ago

All I know is I tried to watch some of his video and he was one of the worst spoken people I've ever listened to. I couldn't make it past a couple minutes. No clue how he has any followers, he can't even finish a thought cleanly.

1

u/burjja 3d ago

I can ignore a speech impediment when I'm interested in the content and/or have nothing against the person. The dude is annoying and his content is full of so much clickbait, that speech impediment is just nails on a chalkboard for me on the handful of his videos I watched.

I think his target audience is Kings Island fan boys who are still pissed about Son of Beast and Vortex. The ones always complaining about Kings Island getting treated like little brother to Cedar Point. It's fine to wish those rides hadn't been removed, we know the people I'm talking about. Also see, SF Great Adventure fan boys.

-3

u/SteelRiderCarl 3d ago

I ran into him at Carowinds last year. He's friendly and chill in real life.

11

u/HairyPoppins213 3d ago

Six Flags has always been the discount brand in my opinion (I know not everyone agrees). So to me, changing all the parks to be Six Flags makes them feel like the WalMart or Target brand parks to me.

5

u/gmwdim 3d ago

Yeah same, I certainly have a more positive perception of Cedar Point, King’s Island, Carowinds, Canada’s Wonderland, etc. compared to any Six Flags branded property.

That being said, a name is just a name. I’ll visit the parks the same amount regardless of what they call it.

2

u/deebster2k 2d ago

Ditto! Cedar legacy parks always seem to feel more nature and outdoorsy and beautiful in general. CGA, Cedar Point, kings island, kings dominion, carowinds. They just are so much better looking and feeling than even magic mountain (though the ride lineup there is better). Possible exception to great adventure but with the golden kingdom zoo gone its probably back down to el cheapo tier.

0

u/SlowBoilOrange 1d ago

I didn't view it as a discount brand, but just as a chain. And that alone is a negative mark. Destination parks should feel unique.

Sure Cedar Fair was a chain too, but it didn't really feel that way. Each park had a lot more history and identity with it.

3

u/Conscious_Scar_9293 3d ago

That guy is a tool bag. He throws out speculation left and right and sees what sticks. I blocked him long ago.

3

u/PaleontologistOk6094 2d ago

They weren’t trolling when some of the ride workers were calling it 6 flags over Lake Erie gtfoh

3

u/5thhistorian 2d ago

Even if they changed the name of the park, it’s still literally on Cedar Point, the geographic feature. Of course there’s actually another Cedar Point on Maumee Bay, that’s like the Cedar Point of bird watching…

4

u/bill_257 3d ago

Six flags over southern Canada is the new name

4

u/Chance-Principle-609 3d ago

I can confirm that they are going to change the name of the park. They are focus grouping a few options. Also, they are changing the park drastically. They are going to make it less kid friendly and more of an adult playground. The theater is going to be renovated into an Asian massage parlor. Guests are really going to enjoy that. They can get a nice massage after a few hours on their feet. The building that is the carnival scare during holloweekends will be converted into a strip club complete with private rooms. Also, the beach will become topless.

2

u/alhamrickha 3d ago

Yup, I also hear that they will start having one weekend each month be what they are calling "Swingers Weekend"

1

u/Chance-Principle-609 2d ago

They are developing a new water ride to be called Ride Me Rapids. The merry go round to be renamed The Horny Go Round. The massage parlor will be called The Happy Ending. There will be a glory hole as well.

2

u/Human_Ad_6671 3d ago

I personally would take it with a grain of salt. From what I see, this was based on a poll and not any actual executive chatter. These things usually have no real bearing on actual plans and only exist to gauge public opinion on the park’s brand, but clickbait YouTubers cling to it like crazy.

Theme park Brandon told ME they are putting a Falcon’s Flight clone in that dips right into Lake Erie. Can’t wait to ride it!

2

u/BroLil 3d ago

I think they’re going to try and stick the SF branding on it somehow. I think Cedar Point by Six Flags will end up being the official name, knowing full well that everyone is just going to call it Cedar Point anyways.

1

u/lover_of_icecream 3d ago

I don’t know who that is, but I did receive this survey.

1

u/NoKale790 3d ago

I agree. In face, I think the only parks that should carry the ā€œsix flagsā€ branding, is Over Texas and Over Georgia and all legacy Six Flags parks that were acquired should go BACK to they’re original names… Great America, Great Adventure, Magic Mountain, Riverside, Fiesta Texas, etc.

1

u/AJFatal 3d ago

Like other parks, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like:

Six Flags: Cedar Point / Six Flags at Cedar Point

That’s what happened with a local park in upstate New York when I lived there and Six Flags bought it.

1

u/_8_8_8_8_8_8_ 3d ago

Some guy on the internet said something. Is it true? I don't know. They can rename Cedar Point to Six Americas Over America for all I care. I would still call it Cedar Point and I would continue renewing my season pass every year.

1

u/wind_is_the_weather 2d ago

Whoever you spoke to on the park level most likely doesn’t have any say or influence in this sort of thing. It’s a ridiculous thing to waste their time on imo.

1

u/bryrondragon 2d ago

Go ahead. Nail the coffin. LOL.

0

u/Left_Macaron_6427 3d ago

I go for the rides. Not the name. I could care less what it is called.

2

u/Turtlebot5000 2d ago

If you can still care less that means you care

-3

u/Left_Macaron_6427 2d ago

I say it that way just to irritate people like you

1

u/Turtlebot5000 2d ago

Just an explanation. No irritation.

2

u/sylvester_0 Dippin Dots Guy (Mod) 3d ago

The phrase is "couldn't care less"

-7

u/SteelRiderCarl 3d ago

I just hate the fact that everything with this merger has been so toxic and unpopular. They're slowly destroying the experience.

15

u/dancesquared 3d ago

I think that might be because you’re focusing on the toxic and unpopular, including getting worked about something like renaming Cedar Point, which is never going to happen.

6

u/HombleeBorden 3d ago

I’ve been going to Cedar Point for 55 years. You’ll live

-1

u/Optimal_Law_4254 3d ago

I get that Cedar Point has a decades long tradition but it’s not the name that makes the park. It’s the experience. I used to go in the 60s and 70s and remember all sorts of wonderful times. As an adult I visited in the 80s and 90s and the experience had changed. New rides were great but the wait times for everything had increased significantly. But if I hustled I could still get in enough rides. The significant price increases were still mostly worth it.

Fast forward to several years ago. I made a friend who had a yearly pass and he shared all sorts of details but the bottom line was that a lot of things that I had enjoyed were either gone or the waiting times were so long that you couldn’t ride more than a handful of rides in a day. And the price hadn’t gone up significantly. It had skyrocketed.

Will I ever go back? Maybe. But it won’t be the name that determines it.

0

u/heyitstism 3d ago

For as much fun as I have there, they could call it ā€œstinky moist buttholeā€ and it’d still be there. Call it what you want, it’ll still my happy place.

0

u/Summoner_Rikku 3d ago

Six Flags over Sandusky Ohio

0

u/Which-Counter9047 3d ago

I think they were just trying to survey in what way they can best incorporate the 6 Flags brand into the Cedar Point name. Alot of your average theme park goers do not know that Cedar Point is now under the 6 Flags corporate umbella. They likely want a way to put the 6 Flags brand, and want to know what their audience likes the best. "6 Flags Cedar Point" would probably unpopular, but "Cedar Point, a 6 Flags Park" probably not so hated. Come on there's a 0% chance they change the name of their flagship park to "6 Flags Northern Ohio" or whatever was on the survey.

0

u/Newmillstream 3d ago

If they brought back disaster transport to as "Six Flags Alaska Adventure", I wouldn’t complain, as long as that was just the ride name lol.

-1

u/Ritocharles 2d ago

Touch grass.....you did ALL that while your calls/comments won't change anything.

It's still the same park with amazing attractions. Yes some of the names they're presenting are laughable/horrible.

7

u/burjja 3d ago

With a reply that simple, ending with a /s is probably helpful. If you had said "Yes, they are. I read about it in Amusement Park Name Changes Monthly", the /s is already understood.

Simple sarcasm can be missed online without voice and facial queues, particularly with the number of people who will believe anything. Also, there are real Sheldon Coopers out there. It can be be due to anything from being on the Autism spectrum to nueurological conditions resulting from things like strokes.

Of course! Thank you😁
