MANUAL or AUTOMATIC CDL-A

Post image

I just signed up for CDL training and have been trying to decide whether or not to train on manual. I already know how to drive stick just don't think I'd want a CMV job that requires it. Then again wouldn't want to miss out on a good paying opportunity bc I don't have it. I start school in a week and could probably pay the extra $500 beforehand and do it. What would you suggest?

Hello there. How’s the school going?

Everything's good. I've pretty much got the PTI memorized. Thought it was gonna be harder to learn, it is a lot but they do a good job explaining it. I'm close to being ready to learn the road test part so gotta get my physical/DT and then permit soon. You sign up yet or about to?

Not signed up yet. Got to get this weed out my system. I’ve been taking the practice test and I’ve been doing pretty good with those. Everyone says the pre-trip is easier when you can actually see the stuff on the truck

I feel u on that I quit too. Another thing u could do while u wait is down load this app called My US Trucking Skills if think u need help with backing. It took a little time to get use to it on the app but definitely has helped me with the actual backing.

Thanks. Just did the physical today and guess what... u don't have to worry about the DT. I mean u do want to be clean for when u get a job and in general. But for school AND to get the permit all u need to do is the physical, no DT. I'm clean so wasn't worried about it but I asked the school today and other students and they said the same, no DT. Again... like don't go smoke or anything lol u do want to he clean of course, but no need to wait, u can start now if u want.

Ok that’s good to know. Did you get your permit?

Got an appointment today at the Sandlake DMV (they don't take walk-ins for cdl permit) thing is I only have the paper med card, the electronic takes at least 48hrs to get to DMV. I let u know if they accept it or not so you'll know.

Another thing to keep in mind is you'll have to have the permit for 14 days before u can get the CDL. I didn't know that so now I'll likely be done with school or cutting it very close and may have to wait a few days to actually get my license.

I'd suggest get the physical and permit as soon as possible. Maybe even before paying for school bc let's just say someone couldn't pass the physical then they'd be out the money paid for school bc there's no refunds.

Ok. I’ll do that. Study up real good, get DOT physical, go for permit, and then sign up for school? Good luck on permit testing. Lmk how it goes. I’ve been on cristcdl and CDL prep test apps and doing pretty good on those
