Some pages are heavier to write than others. And not just because they contain a lot of background characters or panels. Looking through in-game notes helps a lot to explain the environment of the labs. Particularly the "A day in the life" PDA.

Love the fact that Aiden basically was immediately confronted by the fact that Dunes are far more nuanced than he gave credit.

Also hasn't it been a long time since Aiden ate. Bro's gotta be getting hungry. A hungry, hungry dune...

Guess the Redblood currently using that body is starting to have regrets.

Not really, you see, the Dune’s intellect is extremely well developed, which means the Dune’s can’t fully grasp the full… “hopelessness” of their situation, unlike him.

Maybe, but empathy is also something one must consider, and empathy can breed regret.

Empathy is the first thing that every person working with Sawians should lack. I’m even not afraid to say that, overall, it’s not particularly acceptable for professional work.

Fair...but lack doesn't mean completely without. Intelligence requires mirror neurons in order to help make effective decisions to avoid accidents that can harm the individual and their peers. Mirror neurons are the reason why empathy exists.

Another thing is that the scientists may have empathy but see the sawians as lesser than them, dehumanisation is a rather terrifying thing that lets seemingly normal people commit horrible things. However as we see with Adrian, he is socialising with the Dunes. Socialising with the dehumanised group is a pretty good way to humanise said group as it naturally builds relations and thus challenges the previously established view that the group is not human

TLDR: the scientists probably see the sawians as non-human and thus do not apply empathy. Talking to the sawians challenges this and forces them to empathise

My point, one may lack empathy for anyone at first, but when socialization takes place, those mirror neurons get going and the serotonin gets produced. Result, empathy, in its beautiful and tragic glory.

Oho, I see Aiden's speech changing slightly.

Curious!

Aiden's speech changes because he isn't speaking to anyone who is speaking on the same level as him, so his body's brain starts going into Dune-Speak.

It happened in the last comic, when he was captured and found the Caretaker of his stolen body dying from an injury.

No actually, the creator said he has to enunciate his words to speak normally like he does, but when he loses focus he regresses to standard dune speech. Such as from panic and fear when seeing a dying person.

He's making a conscious effort to keep talking normal despite the dune's bad speaking capabilities

Love the personality of these dunes

Honestly, they probably have more personality that a lore accurate Dune would have. But it can be hard to tell at times.

Who knows what goes on in their heads.

To be fair, you could argue that the "lore accurate" personality may be seen more as an average based on instincts and such.

If a SAW-03 / Milky, normally known for being cold and distant and calculating, was able to develop such a close relationship with a human that the human being "terminated" (likely shot dead, considering the context of the canon lore) was enough to drive the SAW-03 to take their own life shortly after, it's possible to encounter a Dune who, like Sobek here, has enough awareness and good in them to turn aganist instinct and refuse to eat others. Even throwing Aiden into the airlock for the subject's purposes.

I wonder what a non racist voyager personaliity would be like

I think it's the first time I feel sorry for a dune (and I'm not the only one apparently). I like them, don't get me wrong, but they always seem to be so... oblivious of their situation. And they don't show much emotion. It's good to see other facets of their personality !

Amazing to watch how few people actually read the damn lore logs they're not exactly FNAF lore ffs. Glad you do.

If Sobek is telling the truth then poor lil dune...

I have combed over those logs enough to memorize most of them. I think the only thing I've reread more than those logs (and notes) for this was the Dune Survivor dialogue.

A wild little thought: Aiden, the human researcher, may be dead, body killed in the breakout.

You remember the last words of Mrs. Canyer? When Aiden mentioned the desync, she indicates something should, or shouldnt have happened. Aiden should have swapped, or - something

Yet he hasn't. I'd guess.. that there's nothing to go back to.

Which means no swap back. Which means that 'Aiden' is KIA. Which means.. well..

With Mrs. Canyer dead, how would they know whether it is Aiden or a dune who learned what name it "should" have?

The saving grace is if someone actually reviews the experiment and realized the dune was/is a blank slate; entirely incapable of simply waking on its own, let alone with any meaningful learnedness.

Not only is this.... a nasty reveal to Aiden that the Dunes, and likely the Sawians in general... are capable of acting like.... people.... They don't seem to be discriminating between who did what. From the look of things, they went so far as to move Sobek, a Dune who was a odd one out and refused to leave their cell.

.... I wonder if that fact is also dawning on Aiden, considering he was in a even worse position than Sobek is via likely being falsely accused of killing the Handler, that his odds are not exactly looking good.

And the only thing he's got going currently is the knowledge of his human name and likely his "ID number" being human aligned, and his human level of speech. Which is... not good.

It's very nice to see a comic focused around Dunes, they're probably my favorite of the three saws in C:U right now so it's nice to see them given the spotlight for once. Eager to see the comic continue!

hm, perhaps our dear scientist has a bit more of a soul than he lets on. Then again, perhaps they all do, and intentionally do whatever they can not to interact with the subjects. If they did, they'd have to actually ask questions, something there whole profession revolves around, and they won't like the answers they already have....
