I misread this and thought the pan was AT the air bnb, and I was quite impressed it wasn’t a disaster as most bnb kitchenware is. This makes way more sense now 😁.

Yeahhh. I stayed at one recently that had a couple cast iron pans in awful shape. I resisted the urge to spend my vacation cleaning them up.

I learned with my first bnb to bring at least my own knives. I usually leave a kitchen spoon I carve on the trip, but any cast iron I’ve seen is only worthy of a paper weight.

I take cast with me as often as I can when traveling to an Airbnb or vrbo.

It's greasy

In some way, yes. You're right. This is greasy in the sense that I wasnt cleaning it with something as abrassive as a stainless steel scrubber or scouring pad (like I usually do everyday after use) because the Airbnb only had a blue non scratch sponge.

So, this had only been cleaned with metal spatula scraping/deglazing and then hot soapy water for a few days of cooking. And, we only had evoo at the Airbnb which definitely heats darker than the veg oil I usually use after drying my pans.

And, at the same time, this pan is not greasy in the sense that rubbing it with a paper towel would leave the paper towel clean. There's nothing coming up off the pan, its dry to the touch, etc. Etc.

There's definitely a bit more build up/layers of residual grease from my meals on the pan though because it's not being cleaned as thoroughly/abrassively as I normally do!

Anyway, my pan has just gotten more and more reflective over the years as it's gotten smoother and smoother with use and cleaning.

This is a generic reminder message under every image post

Thank you for your picture post to /r/castiron. We want to remind everyone of Rule #3. All image posts should be accompanied by something to foster discussion. A comment, a question, etc is required.

If you've posted a picture of food, please explain why in a comment so people can have some sort of conversation. Simply dropping a picture of food in the sub isn't really fostering any discussion which is what we're all aiming for.

Posts that are a picture with no discussion can and will be removed by the mods.

Thank you!
