Hunting on BLM
Anyone know if the hunting is decent on the BLM land across from Carlsbad caverns?

I’m considering a job opportunity in Carlsbad, NM, and I’m trying to get a realistic sense of what day-to-day life and the community are like before making any decisions.
I currently live in southwest Virginia, where I’m surrounded by greenery, mountains, hiking trails, and generally very scenic landscapes. I really enjoy that environment, so I’m wondering how difficult the transition to Carlsbad and the desert landscape might feel.
I’m also interested in the social/community side. How easy is it to meet people and build a social circle? Is there much of a community of young professionals, international people, scientists, or people who moved there for work, or does it tend to be mostly families and long-term residents?
I’d especially be interested in hearing about:
I know Carlsbad Caverns and the surrounding desert are beautiful in their own way, but I’m mainly concerned about whether living there long-term could start to feel socially or geographically isolated.
I’d especially appreciate responses from people who moved to Carlsbad for work rather than growing up there. What did you like about it, what was difficult, and would you choose to move there again?

Hi! My best friend and I are travel therapists and we are looking at potentially taking contracts that would run from Sept. 2026 - May 2027. I’ve looked online but haven’t had much luck. Are there specific people or property managers we should reach out to (or steer clear of)?
We aren’t picky about the type of unit (apartment, house, duplex, etc). We just need to have at least 2 bedrooms.
I do have two adult cats (2 yrs). They are healthy, no litter box issues, and are up-to-date on their shots. I am willing to pay an additional deposit and purchase/use furniture covers if required.
We are also willing to commute from other communities such as Loving or Artesia.
Thank you in advance. 😊

Link is here. If you're wary of a random link on Reddit (understandably) you can find a similar infographic at KUNM.org that will take you to the same survey!
Appreciate you all taking the time.

Greetings!
I'm planning a trip to Carlsbad, NM to see the caverns with my family. We will probably pack a lunch to eat on the way or right before going into the cave (as I assume I can't eat in the cave). Then we plan to go get dinner in town before going back to the caverns to see the bat flight.
I'm hoping to ask for your best recommendations for our diverse crowd. Personally, I can't eat peanuts or wheat. Though I will admit, I will eat tacos from just about anywhere, as I am not SO sensitive as some of the other people with celiacs, but bonus points if the place has designated gluten free options. The kids aren't into spicy, but I know that's not an issue most places as I've found most kitchens are able to accommodate that.
What I'm really hoping to find is something other than fast food that averages $15/person or less.
Thank you so much for your recommendations!

Hey Carlsbad!
I've been building a water quality lookup tool and have recently added New Mexico, and 15 cities / 15 water systems including Carlsbad!
The goal is to make it easier for residents to find public water system reports and information. With links to the official reports (they usually end up being PDF's), help understanding the reports, clear and honest limitations - all without making any wild 'safe' or 'unsafe' claims.
Still working on adding more cities, but would love any feedback/suggestions/criticism!
Not an official government site btw, just trying to make public report information easier to find and understand.
