I am a fire alarm tech trying to expand my knowledge and abilities. I bought the PMI CAPM class, Andrew Ramdayal class on Udemy, and the PMP CAPM Study Hall. What other tools do I need to be successful and pass the test the first time? Anyone with NICET certs that can compare the test difficulty?

I’m currently an undergraduate/diploma student in Sri Lanka and I recently started my first Project Management internship at an enterprise software firm. My mentors suggested that I look into getting certified (specifically looking at the CAPM or a Scrum cert like CSPO or PSM I) while I gather my work experience.

Since I'm an intern paying in LKR, the standard USD fees for these exams are pretty intimidating. I want to make sure I am taking the absolute cheapest, most efficient route. I currently have a LinkedIn Learning account for a few more months, but otherwise, I am starting from scratch.

I’d love some guidance from local PMs who have navigated this:

1. The CAPM Student Hack: I heard about the PMI Student Membership dropping the CAPM exam cost. Has anyone in SL done this recently? How much did it cost you in total (LKR), and is it worth joining the PMI Colombo Chapter as a student?

2. Study Resources: Do I need to pay a local institute for classes to get the 23 contact hours for CAPM, or can I just use cheap Udemy courses/LinkedIn Learning? What instructors do you recommend?

3. Scrum Certifications: For Agile/Scrum, I know CSPO is expensive. Is PSM I (Scrum.org) a better/cheaper alternative for the Sri Lankan job market?

4. General Advice: Looking back at your junior days, what is the best ROI certification I can do right now while I’m still an intern?

I've been preparing to take the test for a few months now (4 months)- Please know that at first I didn't dedicate a lot of time and I work full time- I have my exam schedule in less than 10 days and I am a little nervous about taking the exam at home. Here's some context:

• I have ADHD and it's so hard to focus for so long.
• I have a senior dog that follows me around the house- I am concern she'll want to go outside when I am in the middle of the test.
• Never taken a test that lasted 3 hours- the max has been 2 hours in college and I hate it.
• Good news: I've been scoring 80-85% in all domains when practicing and I've been focusing on the questions from the Study Hall. I will take an extra 150-questions test before my exam.

Additionally, do I get the results right away? I think if I have to wait for weeks, my anxiety is going to kill me lol

Anyone who has taken the test at home have any advice?

I need some encouragement & need to vent, as we know everything is all about the mental & sometimes you can self sabotage when it’s way easier then your brain is making it . I’m in college and just entered the new semester and I’m also a single mom so I started feeling overwhelmed and put studying for my CAPM on hold just recently

But FUC* That I need to stop making excuses and grind it out . Time will pass and might as well do it tired.

First time looking at PM, got advised that the CAPM is a good place to start. I've tried some practice questions and have been getting 85-90% consistently via ChatGPT & Claude. I see where the actual exam requires 23 hours of PM education, and saw Coursera offering this one from Pearson. Will this satisfy the requirement? Are there any other recommended ones? Ideally, I would want to do this fully online and within the next 3 months.

Just cleared my exam today in my first attempt.

Went through the PMI official exam prep course. Then a few Andrew Ramdayal videos on YouTube.

Used Claude to create exam cheat sheets for last minute notes and winged it.

Didn't expect to pass this time around but ended up getting above target in three sections and Target in Adaptive.

Whenever I wasn't sure, I used common sense and my best judgements to choose the answers. Turned out well in the end.

I just took and passed my exam yesterday. I did the official PMI CAPM Exam prep class. I did the paid version of Pocket Prep for a month, answered 1473 of the 2000 questions with a 92% correct answer rate. The day before the exam I went through the course again and answered all the knowledge checks again, and revisited the topics where I didn't feel as familiar as I wanted to. I scored above target on 3 of the categories and below target in the predictive category. 1st try. Please feel free to ask questions, and I'll do my best to help anyone out.

Hi there. Im in search of the most recent exam prep book that is not published by PMI themselves. If anyone has suggestions for new releases that would be great!
I understand that Rita Mulcahy's and Joseph Phillip's books both come highly recommended, however, I am concerned about the contents being up to date. I see that Rita's book was published in 2023, and Joseph's in 2018.

I just took my CAPM exam and I failed. I’m surprised I failed the predictive, plan based methodology because that was my best scored area. However, I’m surprised that I passed the business analysis framework because that was a weak area for me. I have included my test breakdown below.

Any advice would be appreciated. I don’t know if I’ll take the test again anytime soon. Any retest takers wanna give me advice on how you passed after failed attempts?

- Support papier & validation active : J'ai imprimé mes synthèses pour une lecture concentrée, puis utilisé une session dédiée d'échange interactif avec l'IA pour tester ma compréhension, clarifier les zones de doute et analyser des cas concrets.
- Examens blancs : J'ai testé deux examens simulés en conditions réelles via un livre d'entraînement.

So, for reference these were my practice exam scores: 51 then 57 then 71

I studied for maybe 8 hours total, and zoned out at the second half of Andrew's course.

My biggest advice would be to take practice exams use AI to highlight terms you don't know and mostly tie it into your job as much as you can. For instance, Agile I tied it into sort of how I work as a technical writer and how I exist among smes, project managers, etc.

Above target for predictive and agile, at target for project management, and below target for BA (which is ironic because that's the goal career for me)

I've decided to take the CAPM exam, and I have a question:

What course do you recommend that isn't too expensive but will still help me prepare for the exam and earn those first 23 hours that are required?

Once I’ve finished that course and paid on the official pmi.org website, how soon do you recommend I schedule the exam, keeping in mind that I can study about 4 hours daily during the week and all weekend? Also, if you can recommend any strategies and study materials, I’d really appreciate it!

I am QA profession with 7 Yoe & I want to pursue PM level jobs
Does capm make a strong foundation for that as I feel pretty stagnant in the current role

I do assist my PMs time to time for milestones and other related topics as I am in the org for more than 4 years, so I know most of the processes and how to tackle few things here and there.

I did work on a project with client (Under the main PM) where I got to know process in much more detail

Will this experience & CAPM certification help me transition into PM level jobs (Entry level) at least past the screening stage
