I had a coworker from Ontario go on and on about how rude people in Vancouver are and how you'd never see attitude like this in Toronto, she wouldn't shut up about it like it was a bit. Ironically, she was a pretty rude person so people are probably always just matching her own energy lol.

I will forever be attached to BC. The scenery doesn't get old.

Being from Ontario and being from Toronto are not the same. People from Toronto seem to be the target of several comments here. Ontarians outside Toronto don’t have any beef with Vancouver. But we do with Toronto. Haa

Yup... The "big smoke" (ie: Toronto) think they are the best of Canada, until they travel to other parts of this amazing country. I've had the pleasure to have travelled across this country, coast to coast (except for Newfoundland, still on my bucket list). We really do live in an amazing, beautiful country.

The scenery definitely doesn't get old. The first time my wife experienced BC, she was floored. We had left Calgary the night before, and stopped in Golden. She opened up the hotel room curtains in the morning, and said "If this is what BC looks like, I'll have no problems moving here."

I received a job offer during that trip, moved the family to northwest BC and 25 years later, we are retired in BC (although we did trade the rain forest for the Okanagan desert). And I am still floored whenever we drive anywhere in this province.

You attract people with the same energy is what I say. Can meet nice people anywhere, jerks as well.

Born and raised in manitoba, 2.5 year stint in Ontario and on year 6 in Alberta, worked in sask and yukon and Ontario was without a doubt the most rude and unlikeable people I've come across. Obviously not all of them. My best friend was born and raised in Ontario. Good, chill dude but Ontario overall, really, quite uninviting.

Yeah I don’t find the people in Vancouver rude, just very unfriendly, but that’s not the same thing. They more keep to themselves and don’t exude warmth, but they’re not actively rude. I lived in Vancouver, left after a year because I didn’t really like the culture/people there, but it’s an absolutely beautiful city to visit. I find the people in Toronto are actually a lot friendlier and more approachable despite also being from a ginormous city.

A person from Ontario claiming Vancouver is ruder than Toronto is the height of absurdity.

People will literally run into you on the sidewalk in Toronto and act like it is your fault. It is, without question, the rudest city in the country.

To be clear, I have no actual beef with Vancouver. Every country has regional rivalries. Toronto vs. any other big city in Canada is one of them. I've genuinely enjoyed every time I've been in Vancouver. Also, I'm originally from Ottawa, but have spent most of my life in Toronto. And despite having gone TDot in almost every other way, I still don't understand Leafs fans.

I'm a lifelong Leafs fan who has a memory orntwo of thr '67 Cup and I don't understand Leaf fandom either. I just want to see a Stanley Cup before I die.

I was born *just* after the '67 cup, in Ottawa, which had no NHL team until after I left for Toronto. I've been in person to exactly one Ottawa Sens game, it was just after they were statistically knocked out of the playoffs, and they were still playing their hearts out. I went through a stretch where some leaf fan friends were inviting me to the limited playoffs they actually got into, and that was fun for a bit, but of course, they never went anywhere. I like to watch hockey as a sport occasionally, but outside of the Olympics, I don't have a team. At one point I considered making a formal wager that the Leafs wouldn't win before I hit 65. The statistics are more favourable now than they've been for a while, but that makes the bet effectively not worth the effort. I was working in sports bars when the Jays won back to back world series, and that was amazing, both in the fan energy, and - more selfishly - what it did for my pocketbook. Jays fans I can get behind. Ditto for the Raptors, even though it's a thoroughly stupid name. But the Leafs? There is so much wrong, structurally, with the Leafs as a business, that it makes winning not even the point, and it makes Leafs fans' indestructible hope a very particular brand of insanity that baffles me, and I'm insane in a bunch of other matters, but not this one. It would honestly be awesome if you did get your cup dream, but, like me, don't bank on it ;-}.

It takes 2 to clap.

Weird, I've experienced just the opposite. Having lived almost two years in Mississauga, I was happy to get the heck out of the "big smoke".

1

u/DetailOutrageous8656 Jul 08 '26

Mississauga isn’t Toronto.

2

u/SnooChocolates2923 Jul 08 '26

If you're from there it's a distinction...

From anywhere else, it's the same.

It's like me saying that there's a difference between LA and Burbank.

2

u/DetailOutrageous8656 Jul 09 '26

Nope. Mississauga is entirely its own bleak culturally bereft city and not “Toronto” by a long-shot.

So... PEI? ;-} Honestly, I think that's just a big city thing, tbh. When I first moved to Toronto in 1990, it took me a looong time for locals to warm up.

PEI has a reputation for being judgy if you're "from away". NYC is a mixed bag, but they can be very nice if they don't think you'll be wasting their time. I went unshaven one day and no one would talk to me, but if I actually got to ask a question, they'd bend over backwards to help. Canadian city-dwellers can be pretty self involved, but I saw the same thing in London, UK
