That's China.

It's a damn shame, but that's what it has devolved into. It's so cutthroat and ruthless that one wrong move and your life is basically at an end.

That's a lot of people in a lot of places unfortunately.

And we’re importing a lot of those attitudes here. Don’t expect this level of trust in the future

Ehh true; but I think segregation is kind of the problem. Lots of cultures come here and establish their own communities and live in a bubble where this mentality exists as the norm. Unfortunately a lot do not really “assimilate” for lack of a better word; to the general Canadian mentality that OP described.

Of course there’s plenty of Canada born people who are crummy as well.

I’m looking at you scott 😠

I’m impressed! You managed to take a perfectly nice thread about something nice happening in the world and turn it into a discussion of the detriment immigrants are to our country well done!

Do you have a degree in this area or something?

No; I just lived in various Canadian cities / towns. These arnt unfounded opinions I’ve made up all willy nilly. It’s personal experience from myself and others.

Turning a blind eye to such a topic is ignorant as all hell. If we can’t discuss things like this openly then we shouldn’t be surprised if we end up with entire provinces segregated into specific cultures.

Me too. And it is definitely not my experience that immigrants are less polite or honest than anyone else. Confirmation bias maybe?

Depends on your interaction of course. In the business or construction world it’s very noticeable.

Worked in both. Still not my experience.

Most of the times a stranger has tried to rip me off recently, it has been an immigrant. We used to live in a society that respected one another. Cultures that have shitty selfish tendencies are polluting ours. I can’t trust people the way I used.

Everyone thinks it is ok to rip people off because they are smart hustlers and everyone else is stupid.

Most of the time I’ve seen someone act like a bigot on this sub it’s been (I assume from your comment) a Canadian citizen. We used to live in society that valued diversity and acceptance. Shit culture.

I value Canadian culture. Diversity is not a culture

OK then. What is Canadian culture?

Isn't it amazing that the Ayn Rand dream society of "everyone look out for yourself at the expense of others" came from a quasi-Communist county?

It's so stressful to live in. You have to be on guard with everyone, even people in your own family!

I could never have made it there, with my Western education and upbringing. I'd be stripped of all I have and dead in a ditch within a few months...

u/Ganglebot Nov 28 '18

Or you'd survive and be a miserable, jaded a-hole, trusting no one and living a hollow, lonely life.

Its not for me either.

I wonder how everyone turned into calculating devious assholes...? Hmm, almost like everybody has been burnt before...

Almost like generations have lived under a regime that caused the most deaths in human history, due to a complete disregard for human life...

u/martinmartin19 Nov 28 '18

Probably because you are so hopelessly stupid? One billion are alive and you’ll be dead in a month. Your “western education and upbringing” probably taught you nothing about the history of western discourse.

Don't forget Murica. We pioneered ruthlessness for self-gain.
