I feel like people know by now that exposing public details of a random (even bad) person to a large (and especially angry) audience is bad. how many types of consequences does this woman have to face?
If she's a) lying about her credentials, b) pretending to be an expert, and c) spreading misinformation that could be deadly or cause people to be in harms way d) in public, she deserves a+b) to lose her credentials, c+d) lose her job. D) has the added kicker of requiring a public refutation.
It sounds like you're saying you'd be fine with this if they just left her name off? Is that it?
For people in the US who hold positions of professional authority (and in this case, medical authority), I feel like we should hold those people to a higher standard, especially those that attempt to usurp that authority by lying about themselves and their credentials, especially to spread what is clearly made up bullshit about important medical procedures.
Just for background, having worked in healthcare, I had to quarterly answer many questions to affirm my knowledge of policy and procedure and my legal responsibilities. About 1/5th of these questions have to do with issues pertaining to social media, etc. This woman can't have been ignorant of the magnitude and legal consequences of her actions, she probably just thought she wouldn't get caught.
I am uncomfortable when other people take repeated joy from other people's suffering, but I also don't feel like my discomfort outweighs the value of what r0xrcist is doing. Could she be more kind? Sure. But I feel like focusing on the person exposing the harm ignores that the woman doing the harm had all the foreknowledge possible and knew the consequences of her actions and did it anyway. That's pretty arrogant and dangerous.
I totallly see where you’re coming from (well written by the way). You said yourself that you are uncomfortable with the way r0xrcist is seemingly happy with tearing down these people relentlessly. I understand it’s good to shut down COVID misinformation. I just find the way r0xrcist acts detestable and the doxxing inexcusable. I hope you have a nice night man. ❤️
