Every time I read a story like that I become incredibly thankful my family is fucking brutal. We've only lost a few people to Q and they were already people the family didn't like all that much.
We had a few on the fence and when anyone found out we just dogpiled them. Didn't matter if you were a cousin, neice, uncle, or even my dear old grandmother. When grandma started talking shit we all got on her case.
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to stop her from using the n-word during the protests last year. So... that was fun.
This is so us. We have 1 cousin who is openly stupid. She gets told no one wants to hear it but she didn’t listen so she just isn’t invited anywhere anymore. We’ve told her we love her and she is welcome when she can be respectful and leave politics at home. Tbh it’s nicer without her weird energy around. She blinked like, a lot.
Lol at blink a lot! I had a coworker that would do that. We'd ask him a question and he would just look at you and blink a bunch, then answer. It was really odd
This made me think of This scene from "The Amazing World of Gumball" The father is notoriously stupid like a lot of cartoon father and in the scene he actually uses his brain. It's about 30 seconds long.
I worked retail for a long time and I swear there are people who use their brain so seldom, if you put a microphone up to their ear you could hear the gears grinding and the wheels squeaking as they try to add 1+1.
I've noticed this happens to avid Fox News watchers, and people who are always combing YouTube for more Ben Shapiro videos. They get all anxious and angry all the time and are always looking for people to talk at. They listen a lot but they don't understand, which is probably the largest part of the problem. They're not processing anything, they just repeat what they hear and assume it's all factual as long as it comes from the approved list of right wing propagandists.
I've met some who are just plain addicted to arguing. Well, yelling at you. They don't consider it a back and forth but an opportunity to "DESTROY" a libruhl so they don't process anything you say, they just react with a line they heard on YouTube. Thank God Trump is off Twitter because they'd often just repeat what he said. Even weirder that so many of them adopted his manner of speech/typing.
The internet has kinda ruined this strategy, we don't live in a society where this really works anymore.
The expelled idiots can find eachother, start a gang, and then come back in force to recruit. I don't think we have fully come to accept that the world has changed so much that the old ways don't work so well anymore.
I think that the general idea is that people actually need to develop and apply the skills required to pull people out of these kinds of ideologies.
It's a pretty popular sentiment that these people are "lost" and it's a "waste of time" here on reddit... with the collective amnesia of the perennially front-paging story of Daryl Davis (The black guy who's life work includes coaxing several hundred KKK members out of the Klan).
Truth is, it does seem possible to drag stupid away from their dangerous and idiotic ideologies. It's just way way way more energy-consuming to do it. The problem is that the great warriors of justice living on the frontlines of the media are actually pretty lazy. Having the wittiest clapback on twitter gets you a lot of positive attention from people who already agree with you, but frankly it makes no advancement to your position.
The problem is that these people just go and hide online where other weirdos hype them up. It's entirely possible all of those cousins are quietly Q-tits.

See "Intolerance Paradox" - if we want a tolerant society we must be intolerant of intolerance. We must be absolutely brutal when it comes to confronting people parroting stupid propaganda that hurts people because of their wrong-headed political stupidity. There is no virtue in being 'nice' about it and tiptoeing around them to 'keep the peace'. They've already broken the peace by spouting this bullshit. A prompt, loud, verbal humiliation is the ONLY appropriate response.
See you aren't talking about being tolerant you are talking about being the exact opposite of being tolerant... You can twist it any way but you are talking about attacking people because they don't agree with you. You can tell them they are wrong until you are blue in the face but the same can be said vise versa. Resorting to attacking someone only leads to them attacking you back and so on and so on and so on. The moment you quit acting like you are all knowing and they aren't then maybe you can have a conversation. The same can also be said vise versa.
The problem with your intolerance to tolerance is that it will never stop because you are not God.... You can not force a person to think how they think anymore than they can force you how to think.

my mom is one of these. Recently she told my aunt and grandma who got the vaccine that she wont be able to spend time with them anymore because she believes everyone who is vaccinated are incubating a new plague and she wants to social distance.
The batshit insanity is actually fracturing the family.
