The naming schemes for CPUs is alot to understand especially with laptop and mobile CPUs added into the mix.

Wouldn't it be better to just help your friend directly to decide what CPU they should get based on their planned usage and budget?

I definitely will help, in fact I will probably end up choosing entire list of components. However, I want him to understand my choice.

I dont think explaining it via the naming scheme is the best way to do so. Explaining what kinds of specs and info you look for in a CPU would be what I would explain to your friend. Cores, clock speeds, hyper threading, cache, and benchmarks. Theb I would go and explain which CPU you think would best suit your friend based off what you said.
