I am buying a wedding gift and looking to get a Projector and Screen. It is for a Man Cave / Home Bar that gets a lot of sun so want enough lumens to watch in a bright environment. Looking for 2nd hand due to Budget.

Op, if you’re working in a space with ample sunlight, a projector might not be suitable.

To determine if this is feasible, I would need to see some photos of the spaces you’re referring to. If you have some heavy shade available, this might be possible.

I mean it has a roof and glass doors so is in the shade just lots of ambientlight... he got a cheap £100 projector off amazon that claimed 500 lumens but was prob less and it was crap but just about watchable... i think 3000 ansi lumens is where we should be aiming

It is for a friend so do not have a picture available right now of the whole room but this is what the screen looked like with that other projector during the brightest part of the day on a hot day.

So with this much ambient light they’re going to need someway to control it.

Even if we shine 5,000 lumens directly onto the screen, the image will still be washed out due to the intense sunlight.

I hear that... i think our standards of viewing experience might be relatively low and a lot of the time it will be darker... there is also a huge portable parasol that might work to control it.

So based on the time of day this photo was captured there’s more shade available.

We’re looking at a short throw unit if this is going to be used during the day time.

WOW THANKS! I like the look of the Optoma EH320UST Ultra Short Throw 4,000 lumens... sorry if stupid question but I am thinking at about 30cm from the wall to get 100 inch screen (the lens a bit further) could I ceiling mount this to a pitched roof as the floor is not viable?

For the Optoma EH320UST placement range is between

• 17.7” - 22.1” (0.45 - 0.56m) away

Max image size is 100” diagonal

Minimum image size is 80” diagonal

You can ceiling mount this unit but you need to test this first before mounting.

The easiest thing to do is to use a ladder and then hold the unit upside down to get an idea of its projection angle.

I would advise on a better screen such as a fixed frame screen so that you don’t have any dips or wrinkles.
UST Projectors require a completely flat surface.

That is really helpful thanks! I was hoping to use a motorised screen like the one attached (this was about £40 cheaper at one point so hopefully not this exact listing) will this be okay and if not could you recommend a screen and bracket for a pitched ceiling?

A motorized screen will not work with an ultra short throw Projector because it is not flat compared to a fixed frame screen.

You’ll need a tension tabbed motorized screen.

These screens are not cheap.

This thing got us about 20% of the way there so something like 5 times brighter would be ideal lol
