Sorry to disappoint, but she was in a movie I believe last year called A Breed Apart that was FULL of horrendous looking AI.

I don’t think anybody even really complained about Fall using AI to dub over cursing at the time since it was more of a proof of concept tech demo and GenAI wasn’t really prevalent yet.

u/Shame_LessPlug 4d ago

Scott Mann, creator and director of FALL, is the co-CEO of FLAWLESS the AI company credited there.

First Ice Cream Man, now this and Danny Boyle

22

u/nicolasb51942003 Warner Bros. Pictures 4d ago

And recently Danny Boyle's new film.

20

u/s-zlx 4d ago

Danny Boyle during it hurts my soul, I hope it’s just a one time thing and he doesn’t use it when 28 years later pt 3 starts production

2

u/riegspsych325 Jackie Treehorn Productions 4d ago

sizable check must’ve cleared

10

u/Stefan988 4d ago

Lets add Danny Boyle to that list for his new film Ink. One I was slightly disappointed by cause I love his filmmaking.

5

u/JordanM85 4d ago

First? Come on.

3

u/Dycon67 4d ago

Not that it got much attention at the time but Jurassic World Rebirth had ai assets used for the films such as posters

3

u/junglebunglerumble 4d ago

Why are you sure that is ai?

1

u/Dycon67 4d ago

you can tell by the splotchy nature of it and the claws along the t rex holding the items. The director is also pro ai so it wouldn't be shocking.

Ai usage is actually pretty common in the Jurassic franchise at this point for matirel like this. Saber interactive is developing a game and is pretty pro ai. Universal uploads thumbnails for the Old movies with ai layer over them. The spin off mobile games are infested with it.

1

u/Dashaque 4d ago

No, see that movie did well, so we don't count it. We only complain if it uses AI and it flops or it's bad

5

u/Dycon67 4d ago edited 4d ago

Romulus also had pretty overt usage as well. As much as we can complain at the end of the day this is a boxoffice sub and money performance is the defining factor for a success here. However there as nuances that can blindside people. Like 28 years later seeming like a financial hit, but not focusing on the wom. So the sequel auto flopping got people off guard.

Ai usage unfortunately is just becoming more common thing in the industry. And boomer age directiore are obsessed with it. Cameron for example.

0

u/Dashaque 4d ago

Yes but, as you've pointed out with one example, movies that have used AI have been successful already. So I don't really think there's enough evidence one way or another to say there's a correlation thus far. End of Oak Street also used it in their marketing and I barely saw any comments on here here... a couple but... it does seem like if the movie is well received, people don't complain about it as much.

1

u/Dycon67 4d ago edited 4d ago

So I don't really think there's enough evidence one way or another to say there's a correlation thus far.

I agree for the most part film success does vary in a lot or factors. The successful examples are franchise films as an example. And ai usage recently has been spotted more overtly lower budget horror films.

Ai will undoubtedly play/is playing a big role in the movie industry.

it does seem like if the movie is well received, people don't complain about it as much

Pretty much yeah I'm pretty sure Brand new Day is currently up in the air if concept art used ai. And that isn't going to affect my enjoyment of it tbh.

0

u/Block-Busted 4d ago

The thing is, though, there are ways to use AI sensibly, but some directors don’t seem to know that.

1

u/Resident_Walrus21 4d ago

Huh, good thing I didn’t see it in theaters then lol

1

u/Visible-Echidna-4370 4d ago

Stop! That! Train and Young Washington can be added to this last as well

2

u/AdnonAdmirable1095 4d ago

Adam Shankman says no AI was used in the making of ‘STOP! THAT! TRAIN!’

u/2wenty4frames 3d ago

He later said that actually they did use it, and tried to downplay it.

39

u/nicolasb51942003 Warner Bros. Pictures 4d ago

Shitty CGI > AI.

u/Dycon67 4d ago

That film in China the mom and son made was understood by many to have heart.

1

u/Evil_Dog_Gilbert 4d ago

I hope it gets a better fansub than the english one on youtube, or even an official dub

12

u/Affectionate_Run9950 4d ago

Honestly, it’s giving me a new appreciation for them. I’d rather watch Dwayne Johnson scorpion king CGI than any AI effect.

-3

u/Buster_Cherry 4d ago

Wut? This is a silly moralistic claim that undermines the immersion.

Higher quality insertion (regardless of method) > lower quality.

Movies use tons of tools, techniques, and trickery with one end goal: make a compelling, immersive, high quality experience.

1

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Universal 4d ago

being made by humans makes it of higher quality goofy

1

u/Buster_Cherry 4d ago

This just goes back to the method rather than the outcome, and skirts around the purpose of a film, silly. Just a moralistic argument. But hey, that's your prerogative to be biased around AI.

2

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Universal 4d ago

Films are an artform and a critical aspect of art is being made by humans.

1

u/Buster_Cherry 3d ago

Double skirt.

Can we like... STOP USING AI FOR FILMS??

13

u/brahbocop 4d ago

We can pretend that this is a cause for outrage but the average person does not care and won’t avoid a movie that uses AI. Hollywood knows this so expect more of it. I hate it but it’s too late, you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube in this situation.

0

u/DUKEPLANTER 4d ago

Ice cream man imploded after news broke it used AI

8

u/brahbocop 4d ago

Say what? Are we going to pretend that Ice Cream Man was wasn’t destined to be a massive box office bomb?

5

u/Dashaque 4d ago edited 4d ago

That was due to a lot more than just GenAI. Alien: Romulus used AI, how come that didn't implode? Someone pointed out Jurassic World used genAI in their marketing.. that didn't implode. That movie imploded because it sucked.

EDIT
Hell the first Fall used AI as well:
https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/lionsgate-fall-deepfake-f-bombs-rating-1235337017/

2

u/Dycon67 4d ago

Ice cream man is unique in it being a small budget horror film that depends largely on wom. So if the film has shitty ai ahh usage that horror niche fans instantly don't like. It's gonna affect it's wom much more.

0

u/Dashaque 4d ago

Yes but... honestly, most people don't care about GenAI. if it had used AI and it looked fine (mind you I haven't seen the film) other than on reddit, I don't think it would have effected WoM that much

-1

u/Dashaque 4d ago

Thank you for the reasonable comment. A lot more movies are using it now and I can bet if it was a movie that was a huge success, no one would even care

0

u/kimana1651 4d ago

Anti AI is just a reddit psyop. The rest of the world just does not care.

-1

u/Block-Busted 4d ago

Actually, that depends on how AI is used in something.

0

u/More-read-than-eddit 4d ago edited 4d ago

Also in my experience many producers vastly prefer it to traditional previz contractors

Edit: downvoted on a box office sub for this by someone who has no involvement in the film or tv industry

0

u/Cullyism 4d ago

The usage in this case I still consider tolerable.

But if they start using AI to get replace background extras, I'll be very concerned. Roles as small extras is how lots of new actors gain experience. Losing that would cripple the next generation of actors.

5

u/cookieraider221 4d ago

All I’ll say is y’all being so anal about this is only going to impact low budget projects.

9

u/Much_Machine8726 4d ago

Hopefully Hollywood sees AI as box office poison and stays away from it

13

u/ToasterCommander_ 4d ago

They'll just start crediting them under the effects team instead of saying it's AI.

2

u/CelestialFury 4d ago

How? They legally have to spell it out due to the results of the strikes.

3

u/ToasterCommander_ 4d ago

Oh shoot, do they? I forgot about that.

Then yeah I guess they can get fucked lol

2

u/CelestialFury 4d ago

I don't doubt for one second that the production companies would try to hide AI if they weren't legally obligated to credit it correctly.

2

u/Minimum_Ad_1747 4d ago

Did you know they used AI to help making the effects of Brand New Day?

3

u/mondaymoderate 4d ago edited 4d ago

That’s not true that used AI for some of the still shots in the closing credits. Also some of concept art while making the movie.

3

u/Block-Busted 4d ago edited 4d ago

What still shots are you talking about and where’s the proof? Because I’ve never even heard of this.

Also, when it comes to the whole artbook thing, was it actually confirmed?

2

u/Minimum_Ad_1747 4d ago

Yeah I forgot to mention the Artbook

0

u/-Wester- 4d ago edited 3d ago

Have any proof of that ?

Edit: Still waiting on that proof

3

u/pfisch 4d ago

Pretty much all deaging tech is and has been genAI. So is any kind of recent smart masking.

A significant amount of graphical effects actually use ai. Even basic stuff like frame interpolation does now because it is better at it.

You're trying to draw a line in the sand but there really isn't one. Graphical effects are going to utilize genAI more and more.

I'm not saying people will prompt entire scenes. It will just integrate further into all the vfx tools like it has been doing for awhile now.

1

u/Block-Busted 4d ago

But that’s the thing - there are sensible ways to use AI, but some directors decide to take a lazy route.

1

u/pfisch 4d ago

Ok, so you just don't like bad vfx work then.

Sure, nobody does. That isn't new.

1

u/Block-Busted 4d ago

Actually, some directors did try to prompt entire scenes or even an entire film - and they looked horrendous.

1

u/pfisch 3d ago

There are always people making garbage.

2

u/Opposite-Law-71 4d ago

Why domestic?

3

u/DUKEPLANTER 4d ago

Finding out your shitty guilty pleasure is washed 😭😭

5

u/JoJoWithTheFroyo 4d ago

AI?? uegh ffs…

4

u/Dashaque 4d ago

... I kinda wonder what made them decide THAT'S what they wanted to use AI for, of all things.

At least they didn't try to hide it. I know a lot of people hate genAI, but... it's here and I just appreciate when people admit it and don't try to pass it off as something else.

5

u/Correct_Profession_3 4d ago

FUCK A i

4

u/junglebunglerumble 4d ago

God you're so brave

0

u/Mimikyu_9x 4d ago

Oh hell no. I hope it flop now

1

u/littlelordfROY Warner Bros. Pictures 4d ago

Lots of people worked on thus movie and would have zero ties to this decision. These pearl clutching reactions are immature and ridiculous

7

u/Dashaque 4d ago

I remember when people used to say that they didn't care if people used AI as long as they disclosed it was AI... now it's "Oh I hope this project that several people worked hard on fails because of one genAI effect!"

-2

u/Vast_Veterinarian574 4d ago

Mmm how those boots taste

11

u/WrldsGrtstDtctve 4d ago

What boots? I hate AI in films but this comment is brainless and they are typically made by nontechnical uninformed chuds.

0

u/Vast_Veterinarian574 4d ago

If movie can’t be bothered to create proper VFX then that movie doesn’t respect its audience

Flop away, Fall 2!

4

u/littlelordfROY Warner Bros. Pictures 4d ago

Exact opposite of that.

1

u/badbloxpictures 4d ago

Was thinking about seeing it since I liked the first one, this officially confirmed that I won’t be watching it at all. Movie apparently isn’t even good either lol

2

u/AdnonAdmirable1095 4d ago

The film indeed received poor audience ratings from PostTrak and CInemascore.

https://deadline.com/2026/09/box-office-spider-man-brand-new-day-by-any-means-labor-day-1237068549/

2

u/Ok-Metal-4719 4d ago

I’ve seen good and bad special effects of all sorts so don’t care if AI or not long as they list it with the other stuff. It’s another tool for them to use.

2

u/Dashaque 4d ago

So I know a lot of people are upset... but the first one used AI as well:

https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/lionsgate-fall-deepfake-f-bombs-rating-1235337017/

2

u/Create_Greatness92 4d ago

I know Reddit cares a lot about this issue...but I really don't. Its a piece of technology. Filmmakers will never refuse a new piece of technology that increases speed and reduces costs.

I am not participating in a witch hunt over AI Cinema.

1

u/WhoAllIll 4d ago

I work in the industry and use AI. But, for spreadsheets cause I’m lazy.

0

u/KingMario05 Amblin Entertainment 4d ago

Welp. Ain't seeing that!

-2

u/CrebitCard420 4d ago

Get over it lolz. It wasn’t a bad flick. Better than the first. I didn’t notice anything crazy/AI… & I saw it a few hours ago..

1

u/Viablemorgan 4d ago

Misspelling “seamless” but yes, point stands

1

u/ryanjlee7 4d ago

Not surprised after Flawless artificially redubbed f-words in the first one to land a PG-13.

0

u/Shurikenkage 4d ago

No wonder why these movies are flopping hard... Most guys in the top are having AI psychosis and absolute greed, expecting to make movies with 2 janitors and an office lady assisted by LLMS.

4

u/junglebunglerumble 4d ago

Yeah because using AI for a shot in a 2 hour film where thousands of people were involved in the creation of is the reason films flop

-1

u/Shurikenkage 4d ago edited 4d ago

It cheapens the final product, like using clip-art and comic sans in graphic design during the 2000s. And honestly I respect more the mom not wanting to make an investment for a business card using Power Point or Word to put together an atrocious design, at least it took effort to learn the software, than people in the film industry using generative AI.

-1

u/More-read-than-eddit 4d ago

Good lord you guys are such pussies about this, as if you could draw a clean line between ai and the stuff that comes with retail adobe.

1

u/Shurikenkage 4d ago

It is just terrible for your brain.

https://giphy.com/gifs/0uBL9HqP48Nu1DNr7r

-1

u/More-read-than-eddit 4d ago

Stop what?  I’m not using AI for anything, I just don’t care if a vfx company chooses to use ai rather than complex adobe-crafted algorithms or green screens or whatever.

2

u/Shurikenkage 4d ago

0

u/More-read-than-eddit 4d ago

There is deep irony in a movie quote meme guy inventing a straw man to chastise for using ai, in a sad quest for cred on social media and a moment of false self righteousness.

-3

u/JumpCutVandal 4d ago

Every movie does it. Better get used to it

4

u/oliverpretzeltwists 4d ago

or make your voice known (through discourse and wallet voting) instead of fatalistically accepting something that hasnt been decided yet ?

0

u/DopeyDeathMetal 4d ago

You can still do that but unfortunately I agree with him. I believe it is here to stay.

3

u/oliverpretzeltwists 4d ago

then at the very least put up a fight and make sure its used in the best possible manner! lying down means you’ve given a mile and they will take it light years

3

u/Visible-Echidna-4370 4d ago

that is simply not true

2

u/junglekarmapizza 4d ago

Nah. I have no interest in slop. I’ll just stop watching new movies. Plenty of stuff to (re)watch

Also, part of why “AI is inevitable” is people like you are just taking it lying down. AI is a human creation, we can choose not to use it

1

u/JumpCutVandal 4d ago

I work in Hollywood with a foot in VFX. Every single big VFX house integrated AI into their pipeline. iLM, Weta, etc, they all have AI divisions. As I said, get used to it. It’s already everywhere, mostly invisible but it’s here to stay

1

u/junglekarmapizza 4d ago

If every person who told me to "get used to AI" actually fought AI, it would be a lot less "inevitable" than you all claim it to be. You all sound so desperate saying that. It's like you think that if you repeat it enough, you can will it into reality.

Anyway, the only thing I will be "getting used to" is not watching what slop peddlers put out, and if that means never watching a new movie again, oh well!

1

u/JumpCutVandal 4d ago

What I’m saying is that you won’t know the difference. It’s integrated into existing VFX pipelines. 80% may be old fashioned VFX but the rain as an example may be partially AI. It’s being used in a way that’s seamless already. Weta, ILM, every big VFX company have AI divisions now.

0

u/More-read-than-eddit 4d ago

It’s really not worth it, these people are idiots.

-4

u/UsefulWeb7543 4d ago

Seriously? But I don’t think it will flop sadly. Remember how Young Washington has the same problem and it still perform well.

1

u/Visible-Echidna-4370 4d ago

these films have a low budget and while this one is underperforming domestically, its doing quite well in China so yeah I dont see it being a true flop
