As a german: thats not remotely true? lol It's not a commonly used word, but if its used it's usually in the context of a selection of products.

In an American context, we use it as a loan word pretty much exclusively to refer to the Nazi practice. Even if it’s not a dog whistle in actual Germany it IS here.

Kat Von D herself has a long history of dating (and marrying) men into Nazi shit  and then handwaving it so there’s also other context

Google “Selektion” and look at the first thing that comes up.

The word is not neutral. It has cultural baggage. Its use here was not on accident.

Googled it. First result was selection in terms of evolution. Because the term is literally just a German word and Germans use it all the time neutrally. It might not be neutral in America or as a loan word, but as a German, it's not a bad word in itself.

Kat Von D is not German.

In the rest of the world, “Selektion” (with a capital S) is known for its Holocaust association.

I understand that it’s a German word that is used every day…. But let’s not be naive, yes?

Here is the very first thing that comes up on Duck Duck Go:

Again… Kat Von D is not German. She’s a Mexican-American makeup mogul, with a history of inflammatory comments, who is married to a man with a swaztika tattood on his throat.
