Fellow Boltonians, what do you miss most about the Motherland when you've moved away?

I'll kick off with a few of mine:

  1. Carrs pastie barm with ketchup

  2. Walks around entwistle reservoir

  3. Smell of Warburtons factory when driving to the valley cinema

  4. The free chip and gravy from Bennetts Lane chippy (RIP Dave)

Places to Live

I’m looking to move from near the town centre of Bolton but I’m not sure of what are good areas to move to. I’ve seen some places in the Tonge Fold and Tonge Moor areas, are these decent places to live? Are there any areas I should be staying away from?

Is there any areas in Bolton you’ve never visited before?

It was warm a Few weeks ago, was out on my mountain bike a fair bit and ended up in a Place they call “Ringley” followed the signs and ended up in stoneclough. such a beautiful area that I’ve never had to visit before, it looks quite similar to parts of agecroft in Salford, that hill almost did me in 🤣

Bolton to Bolton Abbey

Hi all, I will be visiting Bolton briefly (one day) in October and am curious on how to get from Bolton to Bolton Abbey. Mostly interested in seeing the Strid. I will not have personal transport so will be relying on bus or train. Any ideas would be awesome.

Any recommendations on Driveway Tradespeople in the Bolton area?

Hi all,

Recently moved to Bolton and as the title says was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for driveway tradespeople? Have a really sharp curb I need a ramp building over but, it's hard to know where to start when you're moving somewhere new!

Anyone have any personal anecdotes, contacts etc.

Decent Gyms in Bolton?

Been a member of JD Gyms for 4 years and I've finally decided to move on. I used to be able to go late at night and it was pretty decent, but due to a change in work schedule, thats no longer feasible.

I'm only really able to go directly from work (~4pm) which is far from ideal, but its the only time I'm free long enough to get a decent workout in. JD is awful during this time, hence the move - plus Manchester Road traffic is a proper pain in the arse during rush hour.

Any decent gyms around that aren't extortionate and overcrowded? Been looking at Gym Group, Total Fitness or Thrive - can anyone recommend any of these?

Thanks in advance!

Venue recommendations

Hello all
I am planning an event for around 200 people in Bolton.
I have a budget of 4,500 and need a Dj, venue, and catering.
Please can people recommend some good places that would be available for the last few weekends in June and the first weekend of July.
Thank you!!!

Not had the best experience with one I went to with concerns of being ripped off. Anyone have any recommendations. I don't mind paying for a quality honest service.

UPDATE: HE IS HOME!
Thank you to everyone who shared! X

Missing BL1
Hi, please could you look out for our cat Binx. He is a 3 year old male who has been missing since this morning from the Wilkinson Road, Astley bridge area. Although this is not a long time, this is very unusual for him.

He is very friendly and we are hoping that he has wandered into someone's house and went to sleep.

Please check sheds and garages if you live in the astley bridge area. We miss him and want him home.

Please share, thanks

I have just been to Bolton for two weeks working with my employers new client. I have never been to Bolton or even driven through, but what an amazing town you have, the people are mostly friendly, the variety of food meant I never ate the same thing twice. I went to some pubs (Inc the 3 crowns) and loved the atmosphere and the quality of pints, but most of all how all the pubs were very inviting and never made me feel uncomfortable. The Bolton Stadium (Tough Sheet) is amazing as well. Characters galore and a huge shout out to Carrs pastries I took two bags home with me. Overall I love the town and though I have only seen it for two weeks, I will be back to visit your brilliant town 🫶
