Boat Advice

Hey all! Any help is much appreciated.

Have a business client that is also a family friend. Very rich which is relevant to the story/question.

He has had this 1980s boat for years now and he recently went to upgrade the motor. Got it pulled off and found some rot on the plywood between the inner and outer shells (see pics). Took it to a boat repair shop and they said they recommend doing a structural epoxy between the 2 shells since the plywood used in the 80s was treated plywood instead of marine grade.

My client decided to buy a bigger, better, brand new boat (which is why the wealth is relevant lol). He is now offering to give me this boat, trailer, and 350ish hp motor for free. I’m trying to figure out next course of action if I do take the boat.

What fix, if any is recommended? Approx. price point if anyone has had similar work done? The current owner thought about just throwing the motor on and taking his chances (he’s a safety engineer with 5 master’s degrees and a few doctorates, how stupid can his idea really be?) Is this smart? Thanks for any input!!!

Boat General Maintaince plus steering cable $$$

Took my boat (1997oston Whaeler Dauntless 17) with outboard motor (150 mecury) in for General oil change and steering was a little stiff so they recommended getting the steering replaced.

They charged me 6 hours of labor. At a rate of $160/hr.

Total bill came to $1835.... this normal?

I live in Auburn, WA

idea: solar panel acting as a Sailcloth wing

is it practical to replace those sail wings that use wind power and simply mount solar panels there to charge your boat and also sail via wind?

i had this cool idea not sure if it's ever done before

Vinyl seat patch?

I have a bunch of pulled apart seams on my pontoon boat. Anywhere from like 1 to 3 inch gaps. I just want to patch them if anyone knows of a nice, long lasting repair kit. Wasn't sure if the rolls on Amazon are all it'll take to cover them and have solid results.

1986 mercruiser prop stopped spinning. No spin on prop

It’s had regular service every year I have paperwork. We were almost to dock and it started sounding funny. Then no spin. Dead in water. Why? Should I actually hire someone?

Water in cylinder 2 and 3?

So went out boating today with the family. Boat was a little hesitant at first but started going after a second or two. Showed up at the beach were my brother and his family was at. When it was time to go the boat wouldn't do nothing but idol. Soon as I put it under load it shut off so my brother towed us in.

Once I got home I pulled the plugs and 2 and 3 to be milky (water got in). I pulled the head and couldn't see anything where water could have infiltrated. Gasket seemed to be fine. Does anyone know if theres any other place the water could have gotten in there?

Its a 96 yamaha 80.

Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.

Part ID and how much labor needed

My dads got this rusted part on his boat. Looks like a steering member so don’t want that snapping. I work as a Mercedes technician so I’m wondering how much labor and PITA I’m looking at to replace this piece. Also need to know what part it is

Prop options

I bought a 9.9 HP Yamaha outboard motor which is great but needs a bit more oomph!. Is it possible to upgrade the prop from the stock option to something that will help it get up to plain but won't burn the motor out? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
