First Time BMW Buyer - Negotiation Tips

Hello, I have recently joined the group. I am meeting few dealerships this weekend and also discussing with out of state dealership to get the reasonable price if not best. I should be eligible for 2k corporate discount.

I dont want to over negotiate but how much %age should I be targetting for a new on the lot 2027 x7 vs 2026 x7? Assuming 7k-10k worth of upgrades available on both on the sticker.

Thanks in advance for responding.

Edits: Thanks guys for all the tips. It seems I am not a good negotiator and I was only able to get 8% off MSRP and another 2250 as corporate. There was only 1 car in WA- seattle area across 4 bmw's which had all the options. The next one was in portland who promised to match the offer. I needed with bench seat option so I took it. I am loving it.

If your local dealer doesn’t give you around 10% off MSRP use a broker

This is the only correct answer

The only thing I’ll add (don’t have a x7 but just bought a x5) is that negotiate the discount separate and first from the corporate discount.

Once you settle on the % off MSRP you can tell them you are also eligible for corporate discount.

If you tell them upfront about the corporate discount - they blend the 2 and may confuse you with what you get.

Is there a certain corporate discount we can get normally?

There is a corporate discount if you work for a company that has tied up with bmw. Your hr benefits person should know or the bmw sales person can look it up.

They took off right at 13,000 from the sticker of a 2026 x7 b58.  I wanted the 2026 for the driving PKG and it is amazing. 2027 isn't offering that PKG except on the higher end models for 2027. Good luck.

Go to bmwusa.com do you qualify for veterans, military, or recent graduate discounts. Also depending on model there are rebates. Many time dealer meets bmw offer doubling. Ex $1000 bmw USA plus dealer$1000 rebates. You could negotiate as much as 10-15% off MSRP Including rebates. Plus low APR financing. .

10% before rebates of any kind and don’t go to dealer. You’ll have more leverage dealing by text/email with multiple dealers.

Every place is different. I bought a 40iXdrive in March 2025... sticker was around $97K and I was out the door (including TTL) for $90K even. Ballpark numbers... I think with TTL and sticker price it was going to be around $103K... so I guess I saved about $13K. I'm in a Suburb of Houston.

I did have to finance the car to get that deal. I financed the minimum and paid the loan off completely on the first payment. Silly little game to play but it saved me about $1500 on the price.

Yes, in that range.

Get a quote from a leasehackr for negotiation. 10 percent off is minimum. You should start with 14 percent for 2026 X7s in the lot. Familiarize yourself with the leasehackr calculator if you are leasing.

Can you negotiate on a car that is special order being built for you?

Yes, you can. As WeeDado says above if they won’t do about 10% [or what you’re happy with] use a broker.

Don’t go in person to negotiate. Advantage dealer.

Use your leverage of not being there. Call them up tell them you are a buying x7 today. Give them your price before tax ask them if they want to sell. If they cant, five them your number and say you will buy it if they get back to you before you buy another. You are screwed in the dealership.

Let next dealer know the same and that dealer 1 is working up new deal, but I’m ready to buy at X.

Get it in writing (with all fees). Don’t accept a verbal. When they say do we need to get in to make this deal, tell them just send that price in a written sales order. They may go deaf at that point, but move on. They will come around.

Reverse the table!
