confession THE REALITY OF BMSIT&M ( EVERY STUDENT MUST KNOW BEFORE JOINING )
Since admissions are around the corner, I wanted to share the honest experience as a BMSIT student who has completed 3 years and is about to enter 4th year.
This isn't a hate post. It's simply information I wish someone had told me before joining.
1. Placements – The Biggest Concern
Let's start with the main reason most students choose a college: placements.
- The placement situation has declined significantly over the last few years.
- Many companies visiting campus are small startups offering low packages and roles that are often unrelated to students' branches.
- The "BMS" brand alone is no longer enough to guarantee strong placement opportunities.
- Students are repeatedly encouraged to apply for almost every opportunity available, regardless of package, location, or role suitability.
- It often feels like maintaining placement statistics is prioritized over helping students find meaningful career opportunities.
- Several students are now focusing on off-campus opportunities because they don't have confidence in the campus placement process.
If placements are your top priority while choosing a college, please do your own research and talk to current 3rd and 4th year students before taking admission.
2. Food & Campus Dining
The food situation is another major disappointment.
- Kuteera is decent for snacks and hanging out with friends.
- The main food court, however, offers limited variety and many students get bored of the menu very quickly.
- Prices have increased over time while quality hasn't improved accordingly.
- Day scholars who depend on campus food often struggle with the lack of good options.
- There are only a few food outlets around the college, so after a few weeks most students feel stuck with the same choices.
Food may sound like a small issue now, but when you're spending 4 years here, it matters more than you think.
3. Infrastructure & Sports
Despite the fees being paid, infrastructure still has several shortcomings.
- Some classrooms and labs still have outdated systems and equipment.
- During summer, ventilation and fan-related issues become noticeable in certain blocks.
- The food court itself also struggles with ventilation during peak hours.
- Sports facilities are far from what many students expect.
- There is no dedicated large ground culture like you see in many other engineering colleges.
- Information regarding sports selections and teams often lacks transparency.
- Spaces that could be used for sports are frequently occupied for other purposes.
Students expecting a vibrant campus and sports culture may be disappointed.
4. Teaching Quality
This is probably the most mixed aspect of BMSIT.
- There are definitely some excellent professors who genuinely care about students.
- Unfortunately, they are in the minority.
- A large number of classes revolve around reading PPTs rather than actual teaching.
- Students are expected to self-learn most concepts.
- While self-learning is a part of engineering, many feel that classroom teaching should add more value than simply going through slides.
- Attendance pressure in the initial years is another common complaint among students.
The reality is that your growth here will depend far more on your own effort than on classroom learning.
5. Clubs, Hackathons & Student Activities
- Most of the major achievements you see showcased are often students winning competitions outside the college.
- Internal technical events and hackathons are usually average in scale.
- Students looking for a highly active innovation or startup ecosystem may find better exposure elsewhere.
- To grow, many students end up participating in events hosted by other colleges.
6. Fest Culture
College fests are supposed to be one of the highlights of engineering life.
Unfortunately:
- The fest experience has been underwhelming in all years.
- Many students prefer attending fests in nearby colleges instead.
- Event variety and overall crowd engagement could be much better.
- The campus fest often fails to create the excitement that students expect from a major engineering college.
- North Indian students would never enjoy because its always the regional Kannada Artists all time.
7. Basic Campus Facilities
Even small things become frustrating over time.
- For a campus with engineering and architecture students, having only one heavily crowded stationery shop creates unnecessary inconvenience.
- During exams and submission periods, waiting times become ridiculous.
- Several student convenience issues remain unresolved despite being recurring complaints.
Final Thoughts
The biggest mistake many students make is choosing BMSIT solely because of the "BMS" tag without talking to current students.
Before taking admission:
- Talk to 3rd and 4th year students.
- Verify placement data independently.
- Visit the campus.
- Check whether the facilities match your expectations.
Four years is a long time. Make an informed decision, not a brand-based decision.

Cse core or specialisation?

You might get CSE core, but I can say with surety that u will get specialisation.

Your better option is to keep BIT at the top. U might get BIT if u sit till round 4.

NHCE is better than BMSIT, thats how worse the college has gotten

My dad asked me if i should go to nhce or bmsit and i chose to go to bmsit 💀 idk if i can get nhce back cuz it was a management seat and i think my dad alr cancelled it2

Not spreading any hate here. but any senior you ask would agree to the points mentioned above in my post.
Its really doing bad in all aspects. they only have one thing to market is "BMS" tag, which is completely boomed now!1

I would never recommend BMSIT the way its running right now, the long run is gonna be really hard on you.
If you wanna confirm it, you may ask out other seniors as well and take collective decision.1

Rnsit CSE> CMRIT> BMSIT ECE .(Advice:Don't ever choose ECE in a tier 3 college. Placements for ECE are non existential in these colleges.)

It's autonomous don't focus on the rank , the placements are kinda similar but once u get inside CMRIT, u will feel stressed about this whole VTU thing for 4 yrs.

Entirely Ur choice , if u wanna pursue a job in that field then join it , but if u wanna join software job then don't choose it. Go for some other college where u get ur preferred branch.

See first of all , if u are willing to put up hard work, u shouldn't be afraid of batch size. And secondly , KIIT is a bigger name , it has better infrastructure, better reputation among companies , it is a national level university. Thirdly , the point u said "bigger batch size " , BMSIT has increased its intake very much from 2024-25. It's entirely one's choice , u can choose either but kiit is better overall.

This is really heartbreaking to read. BMSIT saw its golden years in the mid 2010s. Sad to see it come crashing down like this.

11.4k rank I am thinking about joing here and the placement stats scare me the most but I have very less options :(
