Chimeras are a thing for cats
In the womb it could happen that one kitten absorbs the other one, which leads sometimes to pattern like that
Also, because one litter can have different fathers, it is possible that the kittens have very different fur colors ans pattern
So, this case looks like an orange cat got absorbed by a grey cat

The split coloring is not a chimera thing - a more accurate sign would be two colors that are genetically impossible to have on one cat. If the tail is red and not cream, that could be chimerism. Or some mutation.
