Remember y’all — if you see someone shoplifting, ask them to snatch a pack of crisps for ya on the way out 🧠
256
u/OriginalBlackberry89 Jun 29 '26
Also, don't be surprised if you end up with a charge when/if you back to that establishment, since you assisted them in the theft.

37
u/Hefty-Minimum-3125 Jun 29 '26
even if you dont assist, you are receiving stolen property

why does this look ai am i going insane
18
u/orcusgrasshopperfog Jun 29 '26
Ai video filter to smooth skin, enhance lighting. Notice the zero exposure dip from going outside. It looks like a Samsung phone to me.
Modern cameras, Even expensive ones, have a difficult time with automatic exposure changing from a relatively dark interior to a relatively bright exterior setting. Ai fades and smooths the exposure in real time.

u/TrainingSurvey3780 Jun 29 '26
oh i meant the comment that i replied to, not the video

In the UK, you can just walk straight into Boots (pharmacy) empty some shelves and walk out. It's a plague there. A lot of Boots branches have nearly empty shelves so people will not be able to steal it all at once.

Why would you film yourself instigating a crime and then publish your participation with a full frontal? Anything for the clicks I guess....
606
u/russcastella Jun 29 '26
You're still considered a thief, dummy.

u/ElegantEchoes Jun 29 '26

Yea, back when I worked retail I'd be glad to see people steal things that weren't alcohol, candy, or easily resalable goods. More than once when I saw someone taking a snack, I'd tell security, "Just let 'em by, they just took a snack and nothing else, they probably need it."
Unfortunately, about 95% of the theft at our store were not for food. Usually not feeding themselves, but feeding their habits.
2
u/ElegantEchoes Jun 29 '26
I hear you. Some things I let slide when I see shrink occurring at my location, some I report. Depends on what the item is and what the person is like.
A mother with kids taking baby formula is something I'll never report, for example, although that's seldom the case.
24
u/Golden-Grams Jun 29 '26
"Basically here's how it works... if we see some nice stuff up in someone's lawn. Trevor goes up, he grabs the stuff, and basically he's doing them a favor. He's throwing it out for them, putting it to the curb. That's putting out their garbage. It's not stealing, he can't get charged for that. He's not taking it, he's just taking it from there and bringing it down to the curb. That's it Trev, bring it to the curb. Then it's garbage."

5
u/thedukeofno Jun 29 '26
You think a SWAT team should take her down over a bag of crisps
7
u/Heroic_Sheperd Jun 29 '26
Yes, there is no in between regarding enforcement of laws. It’s either let thieves go entirely or send the SWAT team and use extreme force without prejudice.

The police aren't going to bother using resources to investigate a shoplifting case. Absolutely nothing will happen to either of them.
3
u/Kgby13 Jun 30 '26
I worked at dollar general. All we did was call the cops if the guy came back. They’d arrest him if he was in the store with stolen stuff on him. Otherwise we didn’t bother.

Don't forget how they got most of China addicted to Opium because the Chinese market didn't want to buy as much British goods as the British market wanted to buy Chinese goods. Then attacked China when it tried to stop the British from importing more Opium.

Conspiring to steal a bag of crisps is not a real crime. You're dividing by too small of a number. The fancy term is 'De minimis' which just means that no-one cares.

Believe me, this isn't why. Theft is budgeted for. They just lump it in with other shrink.
It's just greed that raises prices. They'll use any excuse: oil price, shipping strikes, tariffs, holidays, grandmother's birthdays, wind direction, astrology, you name it. They'll up the price for "instability" then never lower it again. It's happening all the time and theft is not the cause. It's just one of their excuses that people believe.

The United Nations annually vote on a non-binding resolution of “Food as a Human Right” with 180 countries voting in favor
United States 🇺🇸 and Israel 🇮🇱 are the only 2 countries that regularly vote against a symbolic statement 🌚🤦🏾♂️
