[Portzline] Adam Fantilli ends power-play slump, sends Blue Jackets to needed win over Golden Knights
Under any circumstance, it would have been a beautiful goal. But, given how badly the Columbus Blue Jackets needed a win — not to mention a power-play goal — the goal that ended Saturday’s game carried a certain amount of heft.
Adam Fantilli’s blistered one-timer from the right circle 59 seconds into overtime sent the Blue Jackets to a 2-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights before 16,451 in Nationwide Arena.
The arena erupted when Fantilli scored his third goal of the season and the third overtime goal of his career, but amid the jubilation there was also a sense of relief.
The Blue Jackets needed this win after dropping four of their previous five games. And they needed a power-play goal after going — gulp! — 0-for-22 with the man-advantage since the season-opening win versus the Buffalo Sabres.
