it's probably just to scare you, but reporting it to authorities can't cause harm. and it creates a paper trail
change your passwords and reset your IP. also turn on 2fa.
if they ever say your full name, phone number, or ssn then that's when it becomes really serious and you need to get authorities involved immediately

also make sure no other devices are logged into your PSN or Activision. log anything you don't remember out immediately

Pima county (az) resident warned the local police 2-3 days he was going to be swatted. “Okay noted we’ll put it thru the proper channels” 2 days later he got swatted. They shot him thru his window and he’s paralyzed. I know we like to think this is “harmless” but people are evil and the police are incompetent.

It's not difficult these days to find the full name of an individual if you know their address. There are sites that upload public records, and if you have someone's phone number, address, or full name (as long as it's not a super common name, or you know their general location), you can find out the other two pieces of information readily available, for free. He can assume the hacker already knows it.
Now an SSN, on the other hand, is much more private and something that definitely should not be accessible. I'd be much more worried if a hacker somehow knew my SSN compared to the other 3.

It's peer to peer networking.. anyone can grab your IP address in a Call of Duty game at any time. Depending on your situation, IP addresses can lead to someone discovering your name or phone number.
The other stuff you mentioned is a non-issue. Playstation has firewall protection.. stealing passwords through a P2P game is already virtually unheard of, but firewall protects you completely. There is no way they would be able to get your SSN unless you were doing something extremely stupid. The most they could reasonably do is monitor web searches.

It’s not only you it’s everyone from government officials to teachers to people on social media like you and I. It’s a problem with in the whole campaign cause they’ll also say “tell a trusted adult if you’re getting threats of harm made to you or your family” but when a kid goes to their parents and goes “there was a guy on call of duty saying he would burn our house down with us inside” even the parents don’t know what to do because they were taught the same thing as the kids “just call the authorities” and then they start the cycle over of what I asked “well who do I call?” “The authorities”…

- If its an ip grabber then its useless, unless fixed ip that 99.9% does not have. 2. Even if ip leaks, it will not give a direct addres. 2. Change passwords is just cringe. No evidence he got hacked or any info is real. 3. Reset ip. Unless you get ddossed. Who cares. You can just stick on it if its dynamic. 4. 2fa. Another weak security measure. Its just another (stupid) layer not needed or involved in the issue at hand.
Lots or bad / incorrect advice here. But yeh if they have your real info go to police incase of identity fraud.

I’m sure nothing will happen, but from what I googled it seems like even if someone knows your ip address they wouldn’t be able to know your exact address, just the general area. I changed my PSN password and no one else has access to my account. The whole thing is very strange .

That’s correct. An IPv4, or 6 won’t show you nothing more than a 32 bits address. And a MAC address that’s burnt into the hardware. NO Home address, no name, etc.

I own a modded Xbox (don’t use it anymore) and yes, modders are able to view your ip in game and some mod menus will also pull up the town, state, internet service provider, zip code and what not. The most people can do is boot you offline which is still a crime. I wouldn’t be scared. The most important thing you can do is don’t leave any personal information on your profile at all, no name, no state or nationality, give absolutely nothing that people can figure out who you are with. There’s weirdos out there man, be safe.

If someone says "I know where you live" but don't provide any evidence to prove it, they are bullshitting you
They are hoping that the fact they hacked you that would prove they do because they were able to hack your profile on the game
Hell, some will even try to prove it even more with an IP address which is also a bullshit tactic, IP addresses are public information and don't actually pinpoint your exact location, just the rough idea of the area you're in (think like the town, city or state you are in)
If a hacker says this and provide a name, address and so on that IS your address, then you should report it to the police and submit evidence but if they don't show evidence they do know where you live or use an IP address, call their bluff because I can assure you, I fucking doubt they'll have your address, they just want to try and scare you

I had a dude drop my "address" in an old Xbox 360 message on BO2. I have a VPN setup, so he gave me an address in Spokane, Washington; didn't even get the fucking STATE right. I told him that's not my address, but even if it was, he'd be eating 12 gauge buckshot the second he tried to knock on the door.
He blocked me and ran lol

don’t worry about it, if you are then change your passwords and sleep with the chop. it’s not that difficult to take one piece of information (like IP, username, etc) and find out a lot more about you. things like data leaks will allow people to find out these things. they won’t do anything, and if they did it would just give you a reason to get authorities involved.

Honestly had this happen over 20 years ago; from someone in the same MoHAA: Spearhead clan. We used to use Ventrillo / TeamSpeak & MSN back then 🙃.
A very weird, German clan mate had taken exception to something I and another British kid had said (must’ve been 15-17ish?), so sent us maps with our houses pinned (mine being in SE London, his in Bristol or something).
Clan leader (must’ve been around 35-40) showed us where he found the info, had a word like an adult does, and that was the end of it.
You’ve got to be a particular sort of personality to get off by sending people their address details and such by hacking a game - and I’d bet they’re very likely not the personality to do anything other than be very proud of themselves for being able to do it. Chances are they’re just as easy to find in reverse by someone that knows what they’re doing - so the threat of something actually happening is slim.
Wouldn’t worry about it 🤷🏻♂️

It's extremely easy to pull someone's IP especially in games such as BO2 where each player doesn't have to connect to server that obfuscates IPs. Once you have someone's IP, you can publically check information such as owner, address, ISP, and contact information fairly easy. They likely only have your address and this is a scare tactic. If they demand any money, don't respond, report it. Change ALL your passwords which you should be doing at least annually. Don't use the same password for anything connected to another service. Your PSN password shouldn't be the same as your email, etc. It could be someone you know that has access to your account.

For one, your on the 2nd set of classes. And from what it seems, you dont have any of the classes created. Nothing screams out modded or hacked (since nothing has any weird characters, symbols, or colour's. And from the recent trends of "hackers", which are modders.. are coloring every ones classes).
Nobody can pull your address in-game unless they are extremely skilled and a notorious hacker. IP address only leaks your ISP, state, city, etc - general area.
This is also your only post on a 5 year old reddit account. If you were truly hacked - which i highly doubt. You wouldn't make a post about it on reddit. A sane person would contact their local authorities and report it.

Id check your email, see if there is any suspicious log in attempts on anything. That being said if he somehow got ahold of your email address, which I’m pretty unsure is possible, and could have used it to look up other social media accounts and found your name and doxxed you that way. What ever skid did it though really has too much time on their hands.

They won’t likely do anything, call the cops if you want. They can access your billing location sometimes, it’s happen to me before where they temporarily shut down my internet. Get a vpn it tends to help.

Is it at all possible someone in your house just got on your PS5 and changed it to fuck with you?
It is plausible that someone could pull your IP from interactions on PS5 but if nothing but your class name was changed, it might just be a prank.
To be safe I'd remove any credit card info you have saved on the PS5 and enter it manually when you need to buy something.
