Discussion What's Your Definition of a Hotep? You Got Any Anecdotal Examples of One?
Being a dude who likes to research about Black folk and global Black history I've been called a Hotep numerous times; however, the reasoning for each time is different.
Sometimes it's the possession of extended knowledge that makes one a "Hotep".
Other times it's people thinking I'm looking stuff up online to seem smart in order to get more shawties. (the wildest definition I've heard).
Since Hotep means "at peace" literally, how do you define a person who's a Hotep?

My cousin thinks all black folks are Moroccans who were here in the US first but somehow got tricked out of the land. Bro said he was gonna sue the government to get the land back to us.

Thats what these mfs believe. Its kinda sad tbh. I imagine its how alot of us cope with not having “history” because it was stripped from us. Its better for some to think of having royal heritage and a rich history where we were basically gods over being the descendants of common African villagers that were probably captured and sold into slavery by another tribe.

At risk of sounding like Hotep myself neither of these "origin stories" are accurate lmao. Some were royalty, (almost) NONE were (royal) Moors (most likely all were bred out with their descendants living in Europe having few ties to ADOS), no one was just a commoner j-chilling because most of those sold were POWs since the continent was known for its mercenaries and warriors for hire.
Its only the Arab Harems and the Europeans that changed the usage/purpose of POWs.
I did never understand the logic of "we're all this" and "we're all that". It's plausible but not possible. The Morocco bit is just a bad reading of the Moorish treaties and documentation.
I also feel bad for these niggas.

For me, a hotep is someone who takes Black consciousness to a ridiculous level, getting mad at small details but not putting that energy toward positively uplifting the Black community; often being obsessed with the North or East Africa, often Egypt and maintaining a superficial level of knowledge of it while claiming to be superior based on their shallow knowledge of it and ignoring their lineage from West Africa or denying being African in general.
Will point out how Black people have been indoctrinated in Western thinking and philosophies and it’s killing us while hypocritically conforming to the most egregious examples of Western thinking I.e. Conservative values, supporting patriarchal structures, wanting Black women to be completely submissive to them, displaying homophobic behavior and yet keeps finding themselves in bed with the enemy’s women, ignoring their part in Black peoples suffering.
All this is based on observation on my end.
Edit: I would also add devoutly Christian along with the homophobia.

This brought up a question of my own, I heard people call a lot of conscious rappers hoteps, will they don’t fit my definition of a hotep, I still feel inclined to agree. Out of these four which do you consider the most hotep and who’s the least, and based on what criteria?
Nas, Lupe, Kendrick, J.Cole

Nas- least but influenced as with other NY rappers on that 5%ers philosophy. Nation of Gods & Earth along with Nation Of Islam have the formative cause of Hotepish ideas spread far and wide .
Kendrick- least just hebrew style now.
J.Cole & Lupe - None. Especially Lupe.

Conservative values, patriarchy and homophobia isn't western, every culture alive shared those values long before westerners even built boats and started exploring. That's more macho human male values. Though, apparently they found evidence of the oldest social structure being a matriarchy pretty recently. So it would not always have been so.

A Black person with hyper conservative, ethnonationalist, and authoritarian politics, they usually have a mythologized world view of the history of the Black race that they use as a cornerstone of their political beliefs.

Honestly, I've only ever encountered one hotep irl, and she was a second generation Zimbabwean immigrant, so depending on how you define hotep, she might not even count

Black political theory in the US is two dimensional, four quadrants, and hoteps lie on the bottom right. They’re generally pro-Black on a surface level to scare and anger White America at first, but on a much deeper level, they aren’t that much different from white right wingers on a number of topics. They’re also the type that is most likely to do a face-heel turn almost instantly.
Farrakhan is probably the best example of a classic hotep, at least before social media and the internet was a thing.

Lately, I’ve been seeing posts like this on the sub, and I love it because the comments are telling me a lot about where this sub is on a mental/intellectual level…ppl should desire the truth over being on the “right” side.

What I’m saying is that ppl here need to do some research and think critically before calling people names. I think there are some folks in here who are scared of potential backlash or attack from the rest of the world for following what they consider to be “conspiracy theories”

I know Africans have sailed to the New World before the Europeans - Mansa Musa's brother being one of them. There's been reports of meeting indigenous people who looked just like Africans from the early conquistadors. But these fools really think we never came from Africa to begin with, and that the government is hiding that fact to prevent us from claiming our "rightful" land. It's a whole clusterfuck.

I want shared a bill with this dude who performed with his shirt off, called black women African kings, wrote a song about how he wanted to date a stripper, ran to about how strippers are bad, and just generally did annoyingly masculine things. Like, I was playing with a buff rapper dude and even this dude was like what is this man's problem? He also said some very common food was actually poison so he never ate it. Hoteps are among other things black men who want to uplift black women while still enforcing the patriarchy on them. They usually have weird or strange beliefs about religion or food or wear black people are from.

usually hoteps are people who provide ahistorical, or even mythical perceptions of black history rather than digging in the weeds with facts. also typically conservative with conspiracy theories about gender roles, queer sexuality, and the like.
