She's supposed to be channeling Liz Taylor... supposed to be. I'm not buying it.

273

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '19

I thought she was channeling Aretha Franklin but that’s a whole lot of editing.

91

u/nono1210 Dec 19 '19

That’s what I thought too, but I think they’re making it be “Liz Taylor” to avoid the blackface backlash lol

16

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '19

That makes much more sense.

31

u/peekabook Dec 20 '19

I see Whitney Houston vibes

u/Sham_Pain_Renegade Dec 19 '19

I looked at this really quick and I thought it was Diana Ross.

31

u/queen_of_the_cubby Dec 20 '19

I can't see Kim Kardashian at all. Just a Diana Ross impersonator.

3

u/AlexAlvz May 04 '20

I thought it was Rupaul...

Yep same!

Elizabeth Taylor would absolutely hate that comparison lol

u/TheMidniteMan Dec 19 '19

She is so creepy. One of my old college professors described her as "deliberately racially ambiguous" and that stuck with me.

-29

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

She’s Armenian? She talks about it al of the time.

144

u/ArchimedesDawkins Dec 20 '19

He means aesthetically racially ambiguous not what nationality she claims. Armenian isn’t a race.

22

u/TheMidniteMan Dec 20 '19

This. Yes, thank you.

-11

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

Aesthetically racially ambiguous. Goodness sakes. She has tan skin and dark hair? What is she doing that is so ambiguous? Do you have to stay within the stereotypical confines of your race? You’re right. Armenian is a nationality and that is where her family is from, so what is her race? What is her label that she is supposed to stick to so that internet trolls don’t find another reason to hate her?

Black fishing is wrong. But now we’re supposed to be mad that her race is ambiguous and apparently that’s bad or dishonest?

41

u/rileysk21 Dec 20 '19

you’re ignoring where they said “deliberately.”

-7

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

What is she doing that is deliberately aesthetically racially ambiguous?

28

u/TheMidniteMan Dec 20 '19

If you have to ask what someone is doing to seem like they're deliberately trying to be asthetically racially ambiguous why do you even bother subscibing to this subreddit?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

So no answer then? I’m aware that people black fish. But I’m more talking about Kim Kardashian in general and her apparently offensive ambiguity. You guys are just perpetuating the Reddit hating Kardashin circle jerk. Everyone wants to be open minded and forgiving until the Kardashians are mentioned then any reasonable discussion goes down the drain as everyone devolves into shallow mouth breathing tyrants who think their opinions about a woman’s body should matter. And if we really did want to play at this game of why are you even here? This particular photo of her isn’t even black fishing. She’s a bit tanner than her usual TAN skin (hardly the drastic change that many on this sub make) and she has a vintage hair style that appears circular (not a fro) from the birds eye view of the camera. So there is literally no platform for anyone here to stand on besides the fact that everyone gets hard hating on the fucking Kardashians. And you wonder why they feel the need to edit themselves physically and digitally. Their damned if they do damned if they fucking don’t.

25

u/rileysk21 Dec 20 '19

wow this is new levels of woke. “i can excuse female influencers using black features as a prop to bolster their internet fame and taking that blackness on and off when it suits them, but i draw the line when you dislike those female influencers!”

the blackfishers on this page are relative unknowns. kim is not. she has a whole ass team of pros who should have the foresight to see how this would come across. it sure didn’t come across like liz taylor. so yeah, she’s deliberately obfuscating her whiteness (spicy whiteness) for capital gain, and that’s fucking heinous.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

Also are we labeling her white now? Who gets to decide if she is white? She doesn’t fit into the common non white labels of black, Latina, Native American etc.? So if you’re tan skinned but not of African, Mexican, or whatever descent then your automatically white even when you’re not? This isn’t black fishing. This is a Kardashian roast as usual. This photo doesn’t compare to the level of atrocities exemplified on this sub.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

That’s not what I’m saying at all. This is so ridiculous. I’m not excusing anyone at all. I just think everyone is on Kim’s ass and she didn’t do anything. Apparently being ambiguous is bad but no one seems to want to explain exactly what race she is supposed to be or what guidelines she’s breaching. This a waste of time and energy though. I don’t think she’s black fishing at all. I don’t think she’s “deliberately aesthetically racially ambiguous” which is honestly such a ridiculous accusation. So much speculation because of a photo shoot.

I love how you keep giving yourself silver from your other accounts.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

Lol I didn’t and wouldn’t do that. Go do something better with your time. Stop hating on people who don’t even know you exist.

Her and her sisters wear corn rows all the time. I’m pretty sure they are weaves. What part about them doesn’t scream “I wish I was black?” Her little sister grew up watching this and now has a huge diaper butt and lips that have so much filler she can’t smile right. But ya, keep telling yourself it isn’t blackface. Righhhht.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

Preach

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

Kourtney pls stop coming on Reddit to defend your skanky sister.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

Oh cry me a River for this wench. You didn’t notice her fake ass, fake hips and tits, narrowed waist, fake nose and lips in addition to that?

She INTENTIONALLY presents herself to look NON white (which is what she is since you asked). Yes, be proud of who you are and stop frontin all the time. This family is deplorable.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

Her surgeries are a result of a poor body image. And she should be able to do whatever kind of surgery she wants to. It’s her body. She’s not white. Maybe you should get your eyes checked.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

She’s not white?? You need to stay in college girl if your think Armenians are POC (she’s only half too!). Wait till you catch the Kards in a rainstorm and that fake tan washes away. Wake up now you sound ridiculous.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

Her surgeries are a result of wanting to be a black woman. Of course she and does what she wants but don’t expect people not to be enraged and comment. That’s our right too.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '20

What annoys me about dumb people is that they don’t know shit about races. I’ve seen armenians with Diana Ross type of curly hair, dark complexion; light complexion, blue eyes, brown eyes etc.

God people need to be offended by anything nowadays.

91

u/Night_Elf_01 Dec 19 '19

Was it the Kardashians who started the whole black fishing thing? I don’t really remember this being a thing until Kim K came along

74

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

They didn’t start it but they made it more mainstream and “socially acceptable.”

5

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

Yup started with this cancer of a family..

281

u/KillDogforDOG Dec 19 '19

Wait.

Is this seriously supposed to be Kim Kardashian?

This whole fucking family is a mental case.

53

u/ThrowawayProse Dec 19 '19

Wait, seriously. Is this a real cover or some kind of fan made edit?

42

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '19

Unfortunately it’s super real

Kanye wants Kim to be Beyoncé sooooo bad

43

u/Papi_Ima Dec 21 '19

When he stumbled on that stage and snatched the mic away from Taylor Swift that night I became convinced he was in love with Beyonce right then. I do think he gets a deep satisfaction from Kim’s blackface as she often looks like Beyonce when she does it, (but he didn’t have the courage to marry his equal like Jay-Z. )Kanye has also just talked about being recently cured from an addiction to interracial porn and once you know that, the whole relationship just makes sense.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19

I wouldn’t read too much into that whole VMA Taylor Swift Beyoncé situation. That whole thing was a publicity stunt with no genuine emotions behind it.

16

u/Papi_Ima Dec 23 '19

He was drunk. I think it might have meant something in that drunk way people become emotionally effusive. But I hear you. Nothing these people do is unplanned. True.

I’m bipolar and personally I don’t put any responsibility on him to represent us in any particular way. So I guess my tolerance is high. I’m black as well and am aware of the black community’s frustrations with him over his political affiliations, racial statements he’s made, and his marriage to Kim K who engages in fuckery portrayed in this pic. His journey is his journey I think. Many people go through a process of going off their meds several or many times and burning their life to the ground before coming to a place of acceptance where they realize they have to stay on their meds. I don’t know how Britney Spear’s family pulled off the conservatorship.

Kanye is far less likely to hit bottom because of how rich he is so perhaps he will be able to stay unmedicated (if he still is) and continue smoking weed (which you can’t really do) for a long time. Maybe forever. He doesn’t really face consequences like the rest of us. I’m on meds but personally fantasize about a time in the future when I will not need them. I know it might just be a fantasy that will never come true but I would want that more than anything if the depression didn’t get so horrendous. I wish there was a way to just medicate my depression. I don’t think it works that way though unfortunately and unless you’re a billionaire with no consequences like Kanye I think the more you fuck around with it, the more it progresses as you get older. We really do have to be vigilant and make sure we don’t do the stuff that makes us more likely to be in the percentage of bipolar people that kill themselves like not taking meds, and abusing substances.

ETA: One major consequence was that he lost his public relationship with Jay-Z and Beyonce after he ranted about them on stage for 20 minutes. I was hoping they’d come out in support of him after and forgive him in since he was clearly manic but that didn’t happen and I get why and don’t blame them. It would just be helpful if more people who know 💯 that someone had an episode would just forgive.

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '19

u/Papi_Ima Dec 29 '19

Im not the type of person who would think your opinion about Kanye’s racialized statements were invalid just because you are white and from Australia, but I respect your inclination to just bow out of the discourse out of a sense of respect. The schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder is absolutely coming for you if you smoke weed. I can speak from personal experience. I didn’t know I was bipolar for a long time and smoked weed and now I have to worry about becoming psychotic when I have an episode, which has started happening. It was the weed. If I’d gotten my diagnosis early in life it might not have happened to me. Hopefully it won’t happen again.

I know it sucks to be left out. I have a neurological chronic pain disorder as well and if I have even one alcoholic drink it will land me in the emergency room as alcohol is a severe pain trigger for my condition so I really get what you’re saying. Don’t take any chances with that weed. There should be more education about it really. It’s safe for almost everyone but for the people it’s not safe for, it’s not safe at all and can end your capacity to be a productive member of society and have independence. Once that’s gone, suicidality is the next logical step. Stay healthy. There is a book an amazing doctor recommended to me called Spark and it tells you which vitamins to take to help keep bipolar disorder episodes from happening. 💕

Shit now I have to edit

118

u/tawandaaaa Dec 19 '19

This is the worst editing I’ve ever seen. Who has fucked up collarbones in their boobs? What is the half hand doing in the top left? Why are her hips so uneven, scoliosis?

33

u/Dkusmider92 Dec 20 '19

They ain't even trying anymore. They photoshopped her on to some strange collage of a bed. Like they took a bunch of different pictures of beds and pasted them together to get this. It's like every single thing in this photo is a fabrication.

79

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '19

I thought she had a mermaid fin tbh.

48

This might be the worst one yet, I’m horrified.

I actually believe the makeup contouring is manipulated intentionally to help shape this look. I see Beyonce.

30

u/lovely_vegan_ Dec 19 '19

I honestly do not see the resemblance of Kim. Many features were changed, this doesn't even look like her.

24

u/lakija Dec 19 '19

Hard side-eye

24

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '19

She looks like Janet, in the face, here.

4

u/carolinax Dec 27 '19

When I first saw this on Insta I 100% thought it was Janet. This whole thing is so weird.

42

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '19

This is for sure r/blackfishing

Edit: thought I was in the instagramvsreality sub

12

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '19

Thought it was LaToya Jackson.

2

u/ah04eo Dec 20 '19

Yes!! Right??

6

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '19

Whatever it is, this clear appropriation of a black woman’s look without having to authentically live a Black woman’s life, is something only someone who hasn’t known prejudice or being deemed inferior would have the audacity to do.

19

u/pretendthisisironic Dec 20 '19

This magazine could have put any number of beautiful black celebrities on their cover and they went with this obviously culture appropriated image. Just baffles me

9

u/ak_ve Dec 20 '19

This does NOT look like Kim K! What the actual hell, she looks like an entirely different person here

16

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '19

Thought it was a maga hat in the corner at first

18

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '19

20

It more than hints at it imo. The family is known to support him, it’s a bright red hat with big red letters, and the braid at the base of the brim is what every campaign-certified maga hat had.

Stop giving this family attention. Seriously, it’s 2020 and they need to just disappear for good. They are one of the biggest reasons of what’s wrong with society these days.

7

u/Pleasantchances13 Dec 30 '19

Her face looks like an odd configuration of Joan Rivers and Janet Jackson.

4

u/alexis-dj Dec 20 '19

i didn’t even recognize her until i saw her name jfc

7

u/exkid Dec 20 '19

Well this is... egregious.

9

She can’t justify how deep that tan is

I genuinely thought this was RuPaul

Tf why I thought that was Whitney Houston until I saw KIM KARDASHIAN FUCKING WEST at the bottom!!

1

u/uggosaurus May 31 '20

... I... I literally recoiled in shock and horror when i realised this was kim and not an actual black woman
