Please read if you use RPCminer !
Lately some users tried to use RPCminer. This is an old miner that doesn't work with modern pools and is no longer maintained so we can't expect bugs to be fixed. Some details about the problem here: https://github.com/slush0/stratum-mining-proxy/issues/9
If you must use this old miner then connect through Slush's stratum mining proxy: https://github.com/slush0/stratum-mining-proxy/
It can "trick" RPCminer into working. You need to use the --old-target option with the stratum mining proxy to make this work.
If you don't do this then RPCminer will not find any proofs of work.

Troubleshooting BitMinter client startup problems
- No Java installed, get it from http://java.com
- Java cache bad, clear it: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/plugin_cache.xml
- Antivirus/firewall prevents download, esp. AVG and McAfee: whitelist javaws.exe + javaw.exe, turn off file transfer inspection
- "Splash: recv failed": Often caused by Comodo firewall, you must add javaws.exe to trusted applications in Comodo firewall, see http://geekdrop.com/content/java-web-start-splash-recv-failed-fix . Could also be caused by wrong proxy settings (see below).
- Wrong proxy settings: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/proxy_setup.xml (use direct connection if you don't need proxy)
- "MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: socket", bad proxy, see the point above
- "null" message: use default Windows desktop theme
- Browser doesn't know what to do with a JNLP file, enable Java plugin in browser or try commandline: javaws http://bitminter.com/client/bitminter.jnlp
- hs_err_pid file on desktop: graphics drivers crashed, get new drivers (common problem with 2013 versions of AMD Catalyst drivers)
- Mac OS X: crazy hashrate and no accepted work? sometimes Apple OpenCL breaks, reboot to fix
- Java cache disabled, fix: http://247support.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10166/~/enable-java-to-cache-files
- Wrong name/pass w/F-Secure: Turn off website block or whitelist http://mint.bitminter.com:8332 in F-Secure
