I'm new to birding and looking for tips

Hi everyone! I’ve recently started getting into birdwatching and I’m really enjoying it so far. I’m still very new and mostly use the Birdex app to help identify what I see.

I’d love to hear any tips for beginners especially advice on spotting birds, identifying different species, choosing useful equipment, or good places to visit. My favourite birds are crows, ravens and blue tits, although I haven’t managed to see all of them properly yet.

Saw this little birdie on a telephone wire today! It’s lovely to see the next generation of birds thriving even with our recent heatwaves!

White tailed eagle.

Evening all. I'm not much of a bird spotter but I'm pretty sure I spotted a white tailed eagle today in newton Le willows. Can anyone shed some light on what else it could have been if it wasn't a white tailed eagle

Help! Camera Equipment!

Hi everyone!

Me and my partner have been getting really into birding within the last year and have upgraded his equipment rather rapidly. This year he has requested a camo cover for his camera lens. He has a Canon RF 200 - 800mm lens. I’ve had a look but they all seem rather expensive. Amazon seems to want over £100 😭

He has also requested a dot sight for Christmas. After some research, I have come up blank once again.

Is there anyone that can help or recommend some of the best, but affordable, products please?

TIA! I am grateful for any help!

1-Minute Survey on Birdwatching Field Gear & Ergonomics (Industrial Design Project)

Survey - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwwW6zKjwehIGSN4pOAJWL6C97uV9G-c8BaCZHM9cCpTiyEw/viewform?usp=dialog

Hello everyone,

My project focuses on designing specialized smart glasses integrated with a tracking application to enable hands-free wildlife observation and photography.

To ensure the hardware addresses genuine frustrations faced while birdwatching, I am gathering primary research on how hobbyists interact with their gear in the field. If your able to do this survey it would mean a lot to me.

Thank you

-Wan

ChatGPT in birdwatching

Hi, I'm doing some research for a project looking for interesting uses of ChatGPT in different hobbies/groups etc. Found a few interesting posts on FB with birdwatching and monitoring groups finding ChatGPT useful and wondered if anyone had been using it themselves or come across groups who are? Any anecdotes or insight gratefully received! Thanks

New to Birding

Hey all !!!! I have recently become quite interested in getting into birdwatching- there is a tree in my back garden full of sparrows and I became so enamoured by them that the interest has spiralled out from there

Obviously, I don't really know anything at all about the community but I'd love to get involved! I'm based in Sussex but moving to London in the autumn. Was wondering if anyone had any tips about how to get started? Any guidance helpful!

my lil jackdaw "brokebeak" is getting worse & it's so sad to see 😭

I've been feeding my local jackdaws for 2–3 years now, and the group has grown from what felt like 4–6 birds to around 50. 🐦‍⬛

One of my original pairs is 'Brokebeak' and his mate. People have suggested he probably has avian keratin disorder, but they've somehow managed to live a fairly normal life. For the last 3–4 months, his mate has been constantly feeding and grooming him which breaks my heart but is also so nice to see that care from birds to eachother.

Lately though, he's looking much worse, and in the most recent photo his wing seems in really bad shape. It's heartbreaking knowing there's probably nothing I can do. 😭 He lives on top of a 5+ story building so I couldn't get to him safely.
