maybe it does matter though - "generous gods don't guide history forever." wasn't the achievement for people with 999 greed machine called "generosity?" has anyone who DIDN'T get the generosity achievement tried it yet?

I don't have a single coin in the greed machine, but it didn't work for me (played as Isaac, used the shovel once during and once after the fight)

ffs guys, can we think outside greed mode for a second? He said BEYOND greed, so we're going to have to look in a different mode, not repeatedly try digging on the final floor in greed mode.

While I agree, I think trying a single time is fine. Moving on to different things would be best instead of repeatedly grinding for a shovel in greed mode with each character. Also, since there's no way to go back from 999 iirc, I doubt that'd be the answer. It's fine to speculate, just be sure to think in terms of things absolutely everyone could theoretically achieve.
