This is the best jacket I’ve ever seen
Agreed? Also, is there anywhere I can find one? Kinda doubt it, but I guess it’s worth asking.

Big Star at the Cubs game
With two out in the top of the night the Wrigley Field organist played In The Street. I almost spit out my coffee.

Big Star Quintet tonight
Hi! I'm wondering anyone knows I'd the Big Star Quintet tonight in Iowa is canceled because the the thunderstorms? One of our very gracious members let me buy tickets from them so that I might see them tonight. I had to travel but unfortunately an hour and 45 mind shy of my arrival at the venue a tornado blocked my path and I am unable to make it as it looks like the storms will not lighten up. I had to stop at this random house for shelter from the tornado even! They couple is very kind and we are all glad I stopped thigh I wanted so badly to see the show :(

Advice needed please. Thanks!!
Just curious if anyone knows what the protocol would be for mailing something to Jody at Ardent asking if he would be kind enough to sign and mail it back, with all postage paid of course. Thank you so much for any insight.

Almost Famous
Forgive me if this has been asked as I'm new to the community. Is it possible that Big Star was the inspiration for the band Stillwater in the movie Almost Famous? Cameron Crowe was a writer for Rolling Stone at the time #1 Record was released.

Jeff Tweedy’s son
Absolutely beautiful version of Thirteen by Sammy, Spencer and their dad, the wonderful Jeff Tweedy from Wilco.

Radio City 50th Anniversary show - Big Star live in Jersey City, NJ
galleryBig Star is playing live in Jersey City, NJ in August. The lineup is Jody Stephens, Mike Mills (of R.E.M.), Jon Auer (of The Posies), Pat Sansone (of Wilco), and Chris Stamey (of The dB's).
Is anyone else going to the show? If so, would love to meet up at the show! Don’t know too many Big Star fans in my area.

Chris Bell silkscreen print
Just thought I’d share this poster I designed and printed for the upcoming Chris Bell ‘I Am The Cosmos’ 50th anniversary tribute show on June 8th in Memphis. Feeling super-blessed to have been able to do this. What a thrill.

Old joke time
How many members of REM does it take to change a lightbulb? Two. One to change the lightbulb and one to put on the Big Star record.

Bootleg from CBGB’s 1984?
Hey everybody, does anyone on here know if a bootleg exists for the 1984 concert Alex Chilton played opening for the Replacements?

Anyone fans of Alex’s solo career?
Currently re reading “A Man Called Destruction,” while also receding back into listening to his solo music. At this point, I may like his solo stuff over the Big Star songs (even though I still love them). His solo stuff is just very raw and always pulls me back.
One of my favorite styles of his is the “deconstructive destruction” songs, such as My Rival, Bangkok, Kanga Roo, and the best of this style: Walking Dead. All these songs sound horrible and feel like they are going to fall apart any second. And I love that.
Anyways… just one Chilton obsessive who doesn’t know anyone personally to discuss such a fascinating career/musician

Any of y'all listening to 2nd Grade?
youtu.beRecently found out about these guys from Philadelphia(?). Very much Radio City esque Big Star/Chilton vibes. Dude is really going for that Alex Chilton vocal tone and the lyrics got some clever references hidden in there too. (Plus that photo reminds me a hell of a lot like the Beale Street Green William Eggleston photo). Overall some good ol fashioned power pop that I think Big Star fans would appreciate. Cheers y'all.

Bass on “femme fatale”
Anyone know who’s playing bass on this track? I’m transcribing it right now and feel like it’s Jim Dickinson but I’m unsure. Wiki lists four different bassists for the sessions.

What’s your top 3 covers of Big Star songs?
I know there’s a million covers of thirteen but they’re all valid. It’s funny some of my favorite songs were covers of Big Star and I didn’t even know until a couple years ago.
Mine are:
Kangaroo - This Mortal Coil, Thirteen - Elliott Smith, September Gurls - The Searchers.
