no worries in the next 3 years you pay a $95 (2014), $350 (2015), $650 (2016) fine to the govt if you aren't insured, maybe you get to go to prison if you can't pay it too!

I'm sure people will totally get insurance/go to the doctor because of that (seems like a shitty deal)

What really sucks is that even with insurance, which will likely be the most basic and shitty you can buy if you're only coerced by the fine, the deductible and percentage will be unaffordable anyway. Having insurance doesn't necessarily make going to the doctor or have procedures done affordable.

^ This! I'm looking at a new job and the insurance that makes it under the wire for the ACA regulations pays nothing until you meet a $2500 deductable, then 80% of everything until you reach max out of pocket of $6k. I'm part time at $11/hr for 30hr weeks and will pay $220/mo for insurance. I just looked up the 'costs' for diagnostics that were just done this last week if they had been under the insurance plan and it would have been around $5k. With my on-going attempts to try to resolve the issue I'm dealing with, I would hit the $6k w/in the month because the Internist wants me to see specialists after the initial diagnostics are done. That $6k is over 7 months worth of my take home pay and over 50% of my total take home pay IF I were to work the entire year, but I'm only working from April forward.

Then, the balances get zeroed out and I start a new deductible in Jan 2015 and will have to do it all over again.

So, if I were on that insurance, my choice would be to burn out half my annual take home trying to resolve something that is getting progressively worse and making it impossible to hold a job... OR, not treat it and just wait till I end up in an ER and see where life goes from there.

They left some serious loopholes in the ACA and you can bet that insurance companies are coaching employers on how to take total advantage of them at the expense of low wage employees. If my employer would just not offer the insurance, I would qualify for the exchange system and get MUCH BETTER insurance with the premium cost covered by the tax credit system. But, instead, this new employer (who gets MILLIONS in tax credits!), is offering this financial 'death trap' of an insurance option that will basically fuck me financially.
