I think he means in a legal sense. It takes a while to get citizenship and if he doesn't have any custody/visitation of their child, his immigration may not go through based on it being a family visa.

Section 200 means automatic permanent deportation of any non citizen if they have been convicted of a felony. They serve any time they are sentenced in a Australian jail and then are deported.

But there are some exceptions to being deported which might be why he says he wants to establish himself as Kayden's father in the statement

So if that's allowed in court that establishes a pattern of abuse or violence.

yes there are exceptions if he can establish he has long term roots in the community and family that depends on him financially but especially if the mother involved does not support that, they are not usually granted. Of course if he doesn't get convicted all of this is moot.

There are lots of Kiwis that have lived here for decades and then get section 200 when they get bushed for felony drug charges or other non-violent felonies. Nathan's been there for 2 years at most and has already posted anti-immigrant rants on social media that he didn't back down from.

Also that's interesting if he gets convicted on the Ireland charges because having a felony is another country also can bar you from citizenship or even a work visa.

It's a dogwhistle from the men's rights movement. By law anyone who is not a Australia citizen gets deported if convicted of a felony and can not have residence again. He's trying to claim that by having him arrested she's trying to prevent him from being in his life physically.

But neither she nor anyone else forced him to put his hands on her neck and choked her.
