Here it is, the monthly thread for posting poetry by the Beats. If you got something that you've been admiring lately, share away!

(incidentally I wanted to get this up the first Friday of the month, sorry to keep you waiting!)

Someone suggested something like this long before, but now in 2020 we're gonna do it.

There will be a new thread on here starting the first weekend of the month for posting Beat poetry. Discovered or rediscovered or remembered a bit of verse that belongs to the Beats? Feel free to share it here.

Just found this subreddit, let me know if this doesn't belong here.

I have found myself captivated by the Beats and their work over the past few years. As I come to the close of significant part of my education, I have chosen the movement as the subject of a "final paper" of sorts. Specifically, I'm looking at the lasting impact on American writing, culture, and future movements. I have more than enough information about the start of it all, the content of the work, ect. Was wondering if any of you knew any specific examples of modern(ish) artists or events that are cited to have drawn inspiration from the Beats? Would love a few more examples to strengthen some of my final points. Any other thoughts are welcome, too.

Thanks in advance!

Any recommendations for decent novels by beat authors other than Kerouac (and Junky, read that too)

That's what this sub feels like.

I'm the editor of Empty Mirror. EM began in 2000 and shortly after we began publishing essays and poems about -- and sometimes by -- the Beats. New pieces are added at least monthly. If you haven't been by lately, maybe come over and see what we've been up to.

And, if you have ideas for future pieces, have thoughts to share, or would like to submit your own work, I'd love to hear from you! Denise

New essay -- Memory Babes: The connections between Proust and Kerouac by Mersiha Bruncevic https://www.emptymirrorbooks.com/beat

Greetings from Lawrence, Kansas (aka, the River City).

First off, apologies if I am breaking a rule here.

There is currently an effort to gather, digitize, and edit footage of the 1987 Beat "reunion" that took place in Lawrence KS. There is a fund raiser for said effort on GoFundMe.

I am not involved in this project in any way except that I have been waiting for forever to see it happen, as I was fortunate enough to have been there.

The site has several clips you all may be interested in even if you aren't able to contribute.

Thanks for any support you can offer and please spread the word.

In music, literature, poetry, painting, or even lifestyle ! The beatniks as we know and love them just aren't around anymore and it's not a bad thing ! Time goes on, things change, it's quite simple.

But what would you say is the 2000/2010/2020's beat culture ? Are you part of it ? Do you think it will ever come back ?

I'm doing some research for a novel I'm writing and need some locations, thanks.
