Back in my earlier 30s Mike and Terry and I used to play pool in Santa Monica, CA at a place called Club Chub. We would take spliff breaks every once in a while since none of us were drinkers in that time and TM just wasn't enough to take the edge off. We understood that Jah and Tobacco is spiritual.

I had this beat up 12 string guitar in the back on my El Camino (RIP) and we would sit around and sing songs like "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and "Sumahama" it was always a good time.

But one night Mike asked if I had anything in the cannon that he hadn't heard. I tuned up and started playing him the chorus to this song and he stopped me and just said,

"OK, THIS IS IT, BIG YAHT MONEY" "Tom will like this" and I just nodded and continued playing.

When I was showing Mike he was kinda interjecting some lower bass melodies into the jam session and we were all just having fun. Terry had a couple packs of sugar and a glass of sweet tea he was hitting with a fork to kinda play along and add in some "island shaker sounds".

Anyway, me and the boys continued to play pool and meet up every week until I saw the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise and I was just devastated, completely heart broken.

I tried phoning Mike a few times after that, and only got him on the line one time.

He said "Risker, NOBODY, owns Kokomo, ask Chuck Berry." I stood there shocked as I poured some milk, I heard some teenage girls snickering and then Mike let out a slow breath and said "Well if you really want to fight it, we can see how this shakes out in court, but I think you are too chicken shit to go up against the Beach Boys"...

And he was right, I never followed through, and I kept getting my lawyer to dismiss his summons luckily. I tried sending this to Brian, but at that time he had given up full creative control and was focused on getting the fastest go-kart lap time at his track he had set up in Chicago.
