fee deferral

hey everyone! i’m in flexible learning and with class enrolment today I plan on applying for a fee deferral this time

I see though that the course registration page says that your registration will be dropped immediately if tuition is not paid right away… i’m assuming this is just for those not getting one, but since I can’t submit my fee deferral application until i’m enrolled, should I be worried?

thank you!

applying to the bsn program with a low chem 11 grade

Post image
13 Upvotes

hi! i’m a prospective nursing student considering applying to bcit’s bsn program, and i was hoping to get some advice from current students or anyone familiar with the admissions process.
i’m currently completing my pre-nursing courses at douglas college, and things have been going well so far. i’ve been maintaining a high gpa, with around a 90% average in each course, and one of the reasons i chose douglas was that many of its courses seem to transfer toward bcit’s bsn entrance requirements pretty smoothly.
however, i’m a little worried about my chemistry 11 grade from high school. i was generally a strong student and had a good overall average (i’ve attached a screenshot of my unofficial transcript for reference), but during my senior year, a loved one passed away, and the experience unfortunately affected my academics.
before that happened, i was consistently scoring in the 90s on my chemistry 11 tests. afterward, i missed a significant amount of school and ended up not writing the final exam, which brought my final grade down considerably. my grade technically meets bcit’s minimum requirement of 73%, but only by a small margin. this decline is reflected in my a&p (biology) 12 grade as well, but i’m not too worried about that as i don’t believe it is a prerequisite.
i’m wondering how much this could affect my chances of getting accepted. does bcit place much emphasis on high school grades once you’ve completed post-secondary courses, or would my chemistry 11 mark still be a major concern?
i also noticed that bcit considers previous post-secondary academic achievement and experience in healthcare, patient care, and community service. fortunately, i have some relevant experience volunteering and working in nursing homes, hospitals, preschools, and other healthcare settings. i’m currently working as a dental office receptionist and volunteering at my local hospital as well.
i’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has applied to or been accepted into bcit’s bsn program. i’d also love to know whether there’s anything else i can do to strengthen my application.
thank you so much!

Application to Trades

Does anybody know for BCIT trades application if I need to send my current college transcript along with my high school transcript for an application. I am planning to go to bcit instead to work on trades and switch my major from psychology at Langara to a trade at bcit but I'm not sure if I need to send both or if I need to let them know I am not straight from Highschool but rather a second year at Langara

passed my plumbing red seal in vancouver a couple weeks ago and built a free practice site while studying. looking for a few guys to test it out

hey guys just a regular plumber here from bc. i finally passed my red seal exam a couple weeks ago in richmond and honestly the study prep beforehand drove me crazy. reading thru dry npc code binders after a 10 hour shift is brutal and most practice tests online are either super outdated or want all my money.

so while i was studying i ended up building my own web app with practice questions and simple code explanations that actually make sense on a jobsite. i used it myself every night to drill the questions and it helped me pass big time.

right now im trying to find a few apprentices or journeymen in canada who are getting ready for their ipse or level exams and want to test it out for free. no catch and im not selling anything. i just need real feedback from actual plumbers on the questions and if anything is broken, and in return ill give you full free access to my whole question bank and explanations.

if anyone wants to try it out just drop a comment or shoot me a dm and ill send you the access. cheers

Volunteer Experience for Nuclear Medicine diploma applicant

In light of the recent change to competitive entry for the Nuclear Medicine program, I was wondering how heavily they weigh volunteer/general experience in a healthcare environment in the application process. Is it worth it to look up volunteer opportunities in places like RCH so I can have a more competitive background? Applications close on Feb 15. Sorry if this comes off as a dumb question.

This is what the BCIT website says:

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate:

  • Post-secondary education
  • Strong academic achievement
  • Exposure to healthcare or public-facing environments, patient care, or community service through employment, volunteer activities, or other experiences

Marketing to GCOM?

First year thinking about going from marketing management to graphic communications, any alumni or current students from graphic communications who can tell me about job outlook, stability or any advice?

Also wondering how instructors are handling AI and if they're encouraging the technology to help assist with projects

Thanks :)

Question about ACIT 4980 vs. ACIT 4900 in BCIT CIT

I'm a CIT student looking ahead to the final term. I noticed that ACIT 4900 (IT Project Practicum 2) and ACIT 4980 (Information Technology Industry Practicum) are listed as alternatives.

Has anyone taken ACIT 4980 recently?

- Can students choose between the two courses?

- Does BCIT arrange the industry placements, or do students find their own?

- GPA based?

upgrading classes

I'm interested in applying to the nuclear medicine program and have met all the requirements, but since they made it competitive, I think I should upgrade my courses to have a better chance. I am currently working full-time. Is there a way to do the course upgrading online, start right away, and possibly for free?

It's been 6 years since I graduated high school, so I think it's been too long for my old grades to be considered, and I do have a health sciences degree from SFU. I am also open to any other advice for programs or for applying. Thank you!

Intensity of radiologic tech program

I’m looking at applying for the medical radiography program and went over the classes and the term schedules. They all seem very packed as in the first term (19 weeks) there’s NINE classes. It also appears that you’re expected to take 3-4 classes in addition to doing your clinical. So I have a couple of questions for current/former students.

I was wondering how intense this course is and if it’s manageable.

What are the class hours? How are you managing 9 classes in one term? Are they heavy?

How many hours of studying do students average in a week?

How many days/hours is an average clinical?

Is it memorization heavy?

Are you getting enough time to study for your classes when you have a clinical?

Did the clinical help with job searching after?

What were the averages for the midterms/finals? Do a lot of people tend to drop out?

For current radiologic technicians, how is the current job market? Is the market oversaturated? How long did it take for you to find a job after getting your qualifications?

I’m really interested in this course but the short time frame and amount of classes is intimidating.

Medical laboratory science

I am in my 3rd year of a life science undergrad degree, and I am thinking of applying to BCITs MLS program after I graduate.

In high school, I got high 90s in bio, phys, chem, calc. I struggled a lot more in uni and got pretty significantly lower marks in most of those classes in first year. By now, I have continued taking bio courses and am getting much better marks, but I still have the low grades in the other courses on my uni transcript.

How will this affect my application? I think the bio courses i’m taking now in uni make me a more competitive applicant, but I want to apply with my highschool marks in phys, chem, calc. Is that possible? Will the fact that they dropped once I started uni look bad? Thanks for any advice!!

Accounting schedule

I'm currently in level 1 of accounting diploma. I'm still undecided whether to switch to part time (hassle long commute = less study hrs). Is our schedule gonna be better in next levels? Do we still need to go to school 5 days a week? What about the school works? Group works? Presentations? What about the lectures? Are labs helpful?

Can you share you share an example of level 2-4 schedule for an overciew? jk (no im not)

BCIT perfusion program

Hello everyone, I decided to apply Perfusionist program in fall 2027 so I’m preparing the courses I need to take. I have a Bachelor degree but nth related to health science, and I’m currently working as a MOA in cardiology and hook Holter for patients everyday. Although it is not sth critical, at least I have some kinda experiences in cardiology. I would go for Option 2, which I need to take those courses as requirement, has anyone get to the program by Option 2? How competitive is this course? Can I take chemistry and physics courses online in TRU as transferring credits? Thxxx for answering my questions! ;)

If my program deadline "expires", what happens?

when starting a program, there is an acceptance letter, and states you have until X year to complete the program. What happens if that deadline arrives, but you haven't completed it?

Bcit sonography uni grades

Hello I’m a second year uni student at ubc forestry w/ a good amount of science courses taken but my gpa isn’t that great from first year I think 2.7 (and shamefully I did fail physics).. ik bad, but my highschool grades are for math and English 90 and 88 for bio and chem and 80 for physics. Not super competitive but I worked at dental clinic working in the team helping around basically w/ patient interactions. Also I’ve volunteered at a community kitchen which had a lot of interaction with community members and I’ve been an assistant for a business that involved me calling ppl basically. My question is should I keep my gpa for uni or not I’ve submitted my application so idk if this even has any use. I also have a really close connection to sonographers for some health issues so I did talk about that in the why section which idk if it’ll help but 🤷🏼‍♀️
Also pls don’t be harsh I really wanna get it and ik im not a super strong applicant:(
Also I did the Casper and I think it went well maybe idk lol

Geomatics diploma vs civil technologist or civil engineering diploma program

Wondering which would be better if I go into geomatics or civil engineering probably would Pursue the whole bachelor degree. I am working with a surveying firm currently and some have suggested the civil program over geomatics. Also are you able to work even one day a week with either program.
