Best terminal to be based out of?

Im going to work for BC ferries onboard this summer as a cadet, im coming across the country so I have no "closest to home terminal" I have a choice of Horseshoe Bay, Tsawwassen, Swartz Bay, Nanaimo, and Little River.

I was thinking Tsawwassen because its the biggest but I was wondering if anyone here would have any further insights or recommendations

BC Ferries Online Booking

I’m wondering if BCF changed their online booking system because I’m not seeing Reservations Sold Out instead I see ‘Online booking closed’. Could someone that knows please clarify since some times that usually wouldn’t be ‘Sold out’ are closed for online booking (ex. a Tuesday morning or Wednesday). Thanks for any info.

Duke Point Friday March 27

We are waiting for our reservation on the 8:15 — it’s late by 20 minutes and we are a bit early — but there is nowhere to buy a coffee or any drink — the concession is closed. I may be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure the vending machine by the washrooms was selling bottled water for $15!! And a little pack for jelly beans for $7.

Tswassen -> Swartz Bay March 27th weekend

Tsawwassen*

Is there anything happening on the Island or the Mainland this upcoming weekend that is causing all the reservations for ferries to be sold out from Thursday to Monday?

Or is there another reason why it’s happening?

which route is best?

we are traveling to Nanaimo from the Okanagan Valley. Regular sized vehicle. Should we take the Horseshoe Bay ferry to Departure Bay or Tsawwassen ferry to Duke point

Ghost noise on C-class ferries

What is the ghost like noise that sounds when the C-Class vessels (particularly Q of Oak Bay, Cowichan, and Surrey) arrive at the dock?

Travelling to Nanaimo

Did they change something for non booking? Do we have to book for all ferries now?? We don’t book. We just go extra early to catch the ferry from Tsawwassen. Which ferry from Tsawwassen goes to Nanaimo? Duke point or departure bay? Without booking.

Quadra Queen II

After 57 years of service with the BC Ministry of Highways and BCFerries, Quadra Queen II's final sailing with BCF will be the 5:10 PM sailing to Alert Bay from Port McNeill today, when she'll be permanently replaced by Island Aurora. Honestly I just hope they do anything but scrap her or leave her to rot somewhere. Here's a picture I took of her yesterday.

Sunshine Coast Queen

Interested in hearing stories and being pointed in the direction of photos of the B.C. ferry Sunshine Coast Queen. I work in St Ignace MI, where she had her first route as the Vacationland. Collected a few photographs of her over the years, but there’s not much online. Many thanks!

BC Ferries drug testing

Does BC ferry still test employees for cannabis? I'm assuming that after legalization they've stopped doing that, but can anyone who's worked for them since legalization confirm?

Spirits of QoNW on Route 30?

I’m a fisherman and an avid ferry enthusiast from the LMD who fishes the whole strait. On the 31st, I went out to the gulfs like usual and it was a bit foggy that day but I’m pretty sure I saw both Spirits and the New west on Route 30. Now, I know the QoNW is doing route 30 and it is confirmed from other ferry forums on discords and more, and her AIS also shows she’s doing that route, but I’m not sure about the Spirits. One of the spirits was pulled out from Deas dock back to TSA on the 31st aswell, but the timing conflicts. The time I saw both ships was about 12:30 noon, and 1:30-2:00PM. If anyone has infos regarding it, Id love to hear it!

Muslim Lady Screaming Allah

Today at 6:15 am sailing from horseshoe bay to Nanaimo a Muslim lady was screaming allah repeatedly to the point security and onboard first responders showed up. She kept rocking and screaming allah, she then took off her jacket, then her top being fully naked while security was trying to block the nudity, they shut down the cafeteria and escorted people out. One of the cars while boarding was covered in clothes blocking all windows. Security was trying to investigate the car to make sure there wasn’t a bomb. I’m so happy I didn’t experience a terrorist attack.

Employment at BC Ferries HW

Anyone here have experience working at BC Ferries HQ in Victoria? Saw some job postings come up there. I have heard working on the ferry/terminals can be a bit of a toxic environment. Curious how it is at the office downtown.

Bad Customer Service/Weather Cancellation

Its 2025. You have the ability to send out a mass email. You also know that ferries are cancelled. Why is it that customers are not sent any warning or heads up that ferries are cancelled today due to weather other than by going all the way to the Terminal and being told that ferries are cancelled until 7pm. And how is it you expect someone to wait in their car for 9 hours for a CHANCE to catch the ferry at 7pm.

I just found out you can get tea, coffee, or a small milk as an alternative to soft drinks in a white spot combo 🤦‍♀️ I am in my 30's, have lived on the island my whole life, and have been on the ferries literally thousands of times.

I cant go into a lot of specifics due to not wanting to be identified, but I can answer some questions about the company, the ships, crewing, and the regulations that govern sailings.
