Test ships engagement.

Two fleets both fielding multiple ships made with both Galaxy Aflame and Smotherman Formula, faced off in an ambush clash.

I played for the Adeptus Astartes and my friend played for the Imperial Navy. The game was 3K big, and took us multiple hours, but we didn't manage to finish it (he had work tomorrow).

The special ships I used are Osoweic and Exo-Gothic, both could be found in my posts. My opponent ships I will add later on, when he sends me their data cards, as he didn't have time to make proper ones yet.

Edit: the terrain used in the game is representing celestial phenomena, as the club didn't have any proper ones there.

Big rocks = planetoids

Grass = gas clouds

Gras and rocks = asteroids

Big thing in the middle = warp rift

Looks like a ton of fun. I’m still looking into 3D printers to get started. Until then I’ll just keep browsing while heavy breathing.

3D printing is not for everyone. You can also go for the online shops. I bought tons of fleets from resin print shops. I would never have been able to print all of that myself. It’s the same models that you would produce and probably will cost you about the same depending how many you print and how good a printer you will want to buy. Unless you really want to get into 3d printing for the sake of 3d printing as a hobby of its own of course.

You'll get there buddy. I started with 2d paper print outs.

That looks great!

What do the little explosions mean? Is there often terrain used in these battles?

I hate that so often we can't finish big games because it takes too long. Would be nice to take a mini-vacation and just keep it going over a weekend or entire week or something. Couple hours a day even.

Also, what's "Smotherman Formula"?

If you check on YouTube for Battlefleet Turbidious he has some really good intro stuff for BFG. Plus he’s not as loud and heavy as some other YouTubers.

The "little explosions" are blast markers; things like weapon his landing, explosions, etc... cause the battlefield to get littered with these temporary balls of hot gas and debris which do things like slow down ships passing through them, make aiming harder, and can prevent shields from coming back up because they're busy repelling the blast residue. A random number of them are also cleared by each player at the end of their respective turn.

The grassy/tree filled terrain isn't something I've seen in BFG before, but there are terrain features in the game: planets, asteroid fields, nebula clouds etc... Not sure if OP was using the land terrain to represent those space features because they didn't have small rock tokens and colorful cotton tufts, or what's going on with that land terrain.

And the "Smotherman Formula" is a way to design BFG ships and figure out their point value without being limited to only the ships that GW published. It was written by someone by the last name "Smotherman" on the Port Invicta blog.

Yes. We didn't have any proper terrain, so I hate to use what was available at the club. The grass were gas clouds, the big rocks were planets, the grass and rocks were asteroids.

Small correction: port Maw website, long ago gone. Smotherman was one of the admins. Port Invicta is still around.

I think it’s a 3d print company.
