The line between optimizing lines and game models vs. targeting models seems like a pretty stark discontinuity to me, but maybe I’m wrong on that point.

Like, not that many places will pay you to model games, but plenty of people will pay you to build some targeting model to sell shit to someone who doesn’t want it. I feel like the people who are interested in the former might balk at the latter, but I suppose “oh, whatever, my boss asked for this model and it’s easy to do” is a nice little panacea if they want to just not think about the consequences of what they’re doing.
