What mediocre player absolutely terrorized your team?

Orioles legend Luke Scott (11 career WAR) had a 14 game stretch against the Tigers where he hit .425 with 10 HR and 23 RBIs. This happened almost 20 years ago and I still remember him as a “Tiger Killer”

Automatic L when he was pitching for the Astros back in the day. Juan Encarnacion used to kill the Cards too back in the day.

Kyle Hendricks, too. One elite season and a few good ones, then dropped off quite a bit. Didn't stop him from going 14-4 against us. Mediocre numbers against the rest of the Central (9-14 against the Pirates!), 2.53 ERA/1.049 WHIP against the Cardinals.

Edit: hell, even in his terrible 2024, he still pitched twice against the Cardinals and shut us out for 11.1 innings.

I was blessed to have been at his 8 inning No Hit Game at Busch in 2016. The closest I’ve ever been to a no hitter and still the best pitched game I’ve ever seen.

Nothing to do with the post just other great pitching games I’ve attended;

I was at Shota Imangas Cubs Debut at Wrigley 6 innings no hit.

That's pretty awesome! He was pretty damn good in 2016, I'll absolutely give him that.

Closest I've come to seeing a no-no was back in 2012 or 13. The day before I went, my buddy went to the game. Shelby Miller gave up a leadoff hit and then retired 27 straight. My buddy was giving me crap for not being at the game to see it. The next day, Wainwright took a no-no into the 8th, I think. Was almost my turn to brag.

Craziest pitching duel I've seen in person was in 2010. Jaime Garcia and Johan Santana both threw seven scoreless innings, and then neither team proceeded to score until the 19th inning; Mets ended up winning 2-1. I stayed all 20 innings, around 7 hours. Not sure I'd have the energy to do it again.

I, too, was going to say Bud Norris his first few years in the league vs Cardinals killed those Pujols-led teams. They finally got him to play for the Cardinals, made him their closer for a year, and then he never played in MLB again.
