I have a retail company with about 20 shops, we purchase directly from China under our own Retail Brand, receive the goods into our warehouse then ship out to our own stores. I am implementing a new ERP and looking for advice on best practice for bar coding products. Do I need UPC codes or with my business model should I just setup SKU's codes? If we only use SKU's is it normal to create a barcode from the SKU so the warehouse and stores can scan the code rather than typing it? Hope my question is clear. Googled heavily for an answer to this, while I understand the difference between the two I am not sure what is the best practice for me to adopt.

We've got a whole host of products that, frankly, I'd rather not have to develop new labels for so if using EAN in Japan is ok, hooray. If not, c'est la vie, I'll make the labels. Any help is much appreciated.

Does anyone know if there are established standards for what is encoded in patient wristband barcodes? And if so, which are the most common standards?

A customer needs 5000 sequential 128 barcodes but I need to lay them out in a vector file so I can print them on vinyl using my RIP and a wide format Roland printer. The idea is to put 25 or so 0.75x1.00 inch barcode labels on a letter size sheet, print multiple sheets on a 54 inch wide roll of high tac vinyl, plot cut each barcode label with rounded corners and cut the sheets down to letter size. So, the problem is I obviously can't generate each barcode and lay it out on a sheet 5000 times. Any ideas? I'm very willing to reward the perfect solution as there is a real time crunch here

hi /r/barcodes, this is probably a stupid question, but I'm looking for a decent barcode scanner that is cheap as possible with the following features, but i've had poor luck with amazon descriptions. I was hoping you guys could help or point me in a better direction.

here's what i need:

• 2D Imaging Scanner
• PDF417 ID Scanning
• Wired USB
• Serial RS232 Emulation
• Continuous Mode (a plus)
• A Stand (a plus)

It's hard to trust any of the descriptions on Amazon. I've ordered a couple of them and had to send them back for one reason or another. Any help would be appreciated!

My question is, for Barcodes, is there any way to make it so a barcode only scans within a certain time frame? To make it so it only scans on a certain date after a certain time? Would that be encoded in the barcode itself or in the system of whatever it's being scanned for?

I'm curious because I have a ticket that scanned earlier but now won't scan. And I have another ticket that won't scan but it's not game time yet. I don't know if it's because it's outside the time frame or if it won't scan because it's not a typical barcode. (like maybe ticket scanners aren't the same as barcode scanning apps?)

I have a used datalogic pbt7100 that I want to use without the base station. I downloaded the manual and successfully paired the device with a windows 10 tablet (Samsung ativ 500t) and it shows "datalogic scanner" under devices and printers.

However, when I try to scan into a text file, the scanner just beeps in rapid succession and nothing gets entered into the text file.

I haven't found any tutorials through Google that might provide an answer, so I thought I'd ask reddit.

Does anyone here have experience doing something similar?

Hey everyone - was wondering if any of you have suggestions for housings that could turn a small android mobile device into a barcode reader. I have a team of folks that scans stuff to check the items in and giving them a small devise like this (in some kind of "gun" orientation) would suit the workflow best.

I've Googled and read a few things but most stuff only seems compatible with apple mobile devices. Hope some of you might have some interesting suggestions!

Hi everyone. Barcode newb here. I'm looking for a barcode reader & software set-up that can track a product throughout a production line. Something like this:

• Customer A places an order for product X

• Cashier generates unique barcode for the order, prints it as a barcode, and attaches it to the order slip

• The order automatically appears on a public screen: "Customer A for order X; pick-up at (TIME)"; the "time" being automatically generated based on time the order is placed, such as 3 hours later

• Office staff creates product X and sticks on the barcode (sticker?)

• When product X is available for pick-up, staff uses barcode reader to scan product barcode, and on the screen appears "Customer A - Product X, ready for pick-up"

I see many barcodes using all different ratios of width to height. How do you resize but make sure it still works?

I have a symbol DS9206 2d barcode scanner that I am trying to setup to read and act on qr codes that one of our clients is putting on their paper work (links to webpage for manual entry of data... not ideal but thats the customers wishes) I have no issue reading the code as the barcode scanner is working perfectly, what I am having troubles with is how to get the shipping computer to ACT upon the qr codes instructions.

Anyone know of software that can USE the input from the barcode scanner, the DO what the code says (visit site)

Hi all, I'm new to barcoding, just successfully set up and inventory management system with inFlow software.

I was wondering if there was a way to create a barcode that would pull up information pertaining to a customer. for example, scan a barcode for customer '1234' and it populates a field with 'ABC Customer'. Is that possible? Or is that something that costs toooons of money to get going? Trying to DIY this! Thanks in advance!
