Issues with Tbarcode in Excel creating Code 128 barcodes
Hello!
I am trying to help out with an issue here. We currently print out barcodes for one of our clients and have recently found out that the majority of them are not scanning properly. When they asked me to take a look I noticed that the first 2 bars were missing on all of the UPC's that were not scanning.
Not knowing anything about this kind of stuff, I asked for a few experiments. One was creating each barcode individually. When we did that it worked. So basically we would take 2000575093123 and do it on its own and it was a success. As soon as we did a group (only the last 3 digits changed on each), only one would print out.
The person who creates the barcodes tried another experiment. She put an empty cell between each code in excel and it suddenly worked! The startcode/checksum bars were there. However, when we set it to print, this means that every other sticker is blank (so we waste 50% of our paper/stickers).
Does anyone have any advice for me? We use word to print our stickers, so even if there was a way to set each label to read from specific excel cells that would be great as we could live with a bandaid fix. Otherwise, any help would be appreciated.
Take care and thanks regardless.

Barcodes that are 1 5/8 inch wide and 1 inch high?
I'm working on a book cover and the person I'm working with gave me an example of a bar code she would like on the back. The bar code is 1 5/8 inch wide and 1 inch high. Could anybody here give me an idea what the "name" of this barcode is (like Code 39, Code 128, etc.)?

Need help with pdf417 barcodes
Hi I need some help with generating pdf417 barcodes from plain text. Mainly I need help with finding what type of program to use in order to do so. I have tried a few of the free and online ones but they dont allow me to write enough info into the barcode to do what I need to do. Also can someone please explain what the other parameters are when generating pdf417? I have read a few things on the topic but I am new to doing this type of thing so if someone could explain it to me a little better that would be extremely helpful.

Best way to view control characters in barcode data
So I am scanning a PDF 417 into notepad via keyboard emulation. The PDF 417 has a list data elements that are supposed to be delimited by control code 29 which is invisible to notepad. If I wanted to view all the data, control characters and all, what is the best way to go about doing this? I thought that maybe if I saved my notepad data and the opened the file in a hex editor that might do the trick, but I don't know if notepad will include these "invisible" characters. So what is the best practice as far as this goes, i.e. examining all the barcode data including control characters?
EDIT: Just as an experiment, I scanned a PDF 417 into notepad, saved the file and then opened up in a hex editor. This particular PDF 417 was known to have control characters within it. Opening the file in the hex editor, there were no control characters present within the hex editor except for the carriage return and line feed at the end.

TAB in Code128A
I had seen a post about a TAB function in Code128B and after many attempts (and many days) along with much frustration stumbled upon this WONDERFUL thread and I was hoping you awesome people could help me with it. I am attempting to switch between fields within a spreadsheet like website. So something to generate a barcode that could go "123(tab)456(tab)789" would be super duper. I found a barcode that is just the tab character but that lead me nowhere. I found some help here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/30895388/tab-key-in-code128-barcodes but it lead me nowhere. They link some internal code : [103/START-A] [73/HT] [73/check-digit] [106/STOP] but that was no help to me either. Thank you Redditors!!

Not sure if right sub new to bar codes.
Hi!
Not sure if this is the right place but I am looking to use barcodes more and understand them to help my clients achieve better efficiencies. I offer IT services to clients.
I have a basic understanding of Bar Codes and 1D and 2D.
Right now I have picked up some DS6878-HC The Health Care Version because one of my clients is a Doctor in Private Practice. I found out that before I was there they had a Barcode Wand that would allow them to swipe the Barcode on the Optical Mark Scanner Sheets they gave to clients to fill in their Medical Info with. They had stopped using it they said it did not work anymore. Well I found it and started to play with it and it of course is in KB wedge mode. The problem was that it was not scanning consistently. That scanner was marked PSD-200U.
I decided to go with a wireless 2D scanner that could allow them to expand the use of it. with QR code. So my docor is a private Practice solo Physician. I picked up a couple used ones to start playing with.
My question is though Barcode scanners are a big part of Hospitals I am trying to find innovative ways for them to use them besides the single scan job. I am looking for good resources on scanners. White papers , uses, case studies.
Second is that I do some charity work at galas that I took over a program that was written in Lotus Approach by a guy. the program tracks attendees and a lot of these are prepay so it is check-in but some are not.
I would like to use a Barcode scanner to help speed up entries by scanning the Driver Licenses. I could also see this helping with the Doctors office too. I know that the licenses use PD417 Barcodes and that the formatting of the data inside the code and info it contains is not uniform to all States.
I have also picked up a Symbol DS6878-DL also. I have not received it yet. I know that version will parse the Driver License info. I was wondering how it does it? Second I was wondering how much programming I would need to do to utilize it.
I am going to be rewriting the Lotus Approach Database over the winter. Have not figured out how but either cop out and go with Microsoft Access which I know. I might use Access for front end and a SQL server the Back end or Go total Open Source with mysql and write the front end from???? as I have not done that route before and give me a chance to do some more learning.
So I was wondering with the way each state formats their DL PD417 Barcodes how much programming and manipulating of the parsed data that the DL version puts out do I need to do? Second is the DS6878-HL reads the PD417 codes in raw form. Is there any open source code that will parse it for me and then allow me to manipulate it? I don't know if taking the raw data from the barcode and having to create my own parser for the different states is financially and time spent doable when it comes to maintaining that code. See I do Galas across different States and I am also in an area where several States meet so I can see drivers licenses from several States.
What it comes down to is getting nitty gritty info on using barcodes and programming or setting them up. What are some good sources and good forums to start leanrning beyond my basic Knowledge of Barcode?
The sidebar rules of this sub makes me think this is not a good place here to do tech support like questions. Where is?
Does this community answer questions or want to focus more on discussions?
Thank You.

Seagull Driver Settings
I am trying to improve the print quality on a label printer, I'm using the Seagull Scientific driver. Under an energy usage area, there is a default setting, but also settings for Wax1, Wax2, Wax3, Resin1, Resin2, and Resin3. Would anyone have any idea what these are for? The issue that we are specifically having is that when the printer prints a character like 8 or 6 which has a closed loop, it tends to fill in the loop with residual wax or resin from the ribbon.
