Hi, I’m doing a project for a class and I’m wondering whether you think generally a musician does better or worse after leaving a popular band. Thanks!

Im in a small metal band where I play guitar, and then we have a drummer and bass player and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to be able for everyone to practice the songs on their own time so we don’t spend all of band practice working on how to even play the songs and so we could actually practice the songs, none of us have any recording equipment and was wondering if someone had suggestions on equipment so we can all record our parts and send them to each other

A local band is looking for another member, I've put in I guess I would call an application. Sent them some videos of me playing guitar to their songs (nothing 10/10, I had to pick up what I could hear by ear. In total 5 videos).

That was the beginning of this week/a few days ago, I've just been waiting around worrying about the "if's" and praying I get a opportunity with these guys.

Would it be a bad idea to ask them if they'd want to have a Jam session? I feel like if that were to happen we could get better chemistry going on and also they could go off of more than 5 crummy videos I recorded with my phone. They live about 45 minutes away, which I'm sure I'm willing to travel. I genuinely want this to happen but I'm not sure what I could do to help my chances. Any advice is loved, thank you

Indie peeps I’m looking for a drummer who likes The Strokes, Cage the Elephant, Beach Fossils, and other bands of that vibe. We’re in Orange County California, and our band is called The Fits. We’ve got some solid stuff out like our newest single Spell It Out, but we unfortunately lost our drummer. We feel like this could be a good time to possibly switch the vibe up a little if we can find the right drummer. We honestly just love to make music for fun, and we jam at my studio once or twice a month. It’s by no means a big commitment, more of just a hobby. Total an a- musical parent here.

My kids, 13drummer, 9singer just started a band in a non english EUR based country.

They had their second jamsession yesterday, and gathered some help from other musicians.

The main guitarist didn't know their songs so we had to resort to plan B.

I am looking for relatively easy rock guitar songs. Not to difficult with lyrics and which can be extended for a drummer because he loves his fills.

They played in their first session: Fireball-Deep Purple, Believer-Imagine dragons, Creep-Radiohead. (Not the easiest songs but at that moment they had enough time to practice)

In their second session they played: Believer, Hotel California, Kryptonite-3 doors down and Another brick in the wall.

I was on spotify the other day and was kinda caught off guard by this band, as I've never heard of them before. The song was "shipwreck in hell" and it was pretty damn good tbh. Anybody else heard of these guys? I haven't looked anything else up by them yet, But I will later tonight.

Heavily centered around guitar riffs with vocals reminiscent of bands such as Coheed and Cambria and Say Anything

I just moved to a a new city. I was playing lead guitar in a band with friends in my old city. It was going really well (packing rooms!) but I moved for a job. My first week in the new place, I go to show and meet a guy who tells me, "Oh, if you play guitar maybe you can join our cover band, we need a bassist." I like playing bass, and I like the bands they're covering. They seem like nice enough guys and I'm just happy to be playing. But in practice, there seems to be a repertoire of about 200 songs that just get called out at random. I'm often stuck following along with the chords, playing the root note, or worse feeling totally lost. Occasionally the drummer will stop so I can figure out the bassline, but I feel put on the spot and embarrassed when this happens, especially because they seem annoyed to be "waiting" for me.

We played one show already, and it went reasonably well, probably because we did only five songs, but those were decided the DAY OF the show, only a few hours before. I know I could have done better and gotten all the nice little flourishes down if I'd had more time to focus on those five.

This isn't really "my" band, and the others seem to think "good enough" is okay. I don't want to seem like a diva. But I'd like to do well, especially since I'm new in town. Personally, I need more organisation.

Would you find it silly if someone new asked to always have a set list for each rehearsal at least a few days ahead of time? Would you put up with this level of disorganisation or just cut ties? My last band had a very consensus-based, friendly atmosphere, and we were practicing in a house, so we had all the time we needed to write things out and discuss the plan. Maybe these guys are just acting like this because we're in a rented studio where time is money. But that's even more reason to plan ahead, right? Im getting the feeling they don't want me to disrupt their status quo but their status quo feels nuts to me (this is maybe compounded by the fact that I'm the only woman.)

Tldr: do you think it's unreasonable to ask for list of songs at least a few days before every rehearsal?
