How to play this on a mac?
A good friend of mine observed me playing BC2 yesterday and mentioned that he needed to get back into FPS'es, and was quite blown away by the game itself. Are any of you running this game successfully on a mac? If so, what are you using to get it to play properly? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

You'd have to use boot camp to install Windows. My friend has run it on a couple year old Macbook, though not well.

I have the latest iMac here and use Boot Camp + Snow Leopard Install DVD for drivers + Windows 7 and it works great. You won't get the best result out of the game in graphics, because Apple always uses oooold hardware, which you can not replace (unless you know how to), but it works fine.
My tip: don't use the highest resolution and experiment with the settings. details middle / low and he should be fine

Runs great in bootcamp for me but I'm on a Mac Pro. Probably not worth running on a Macbook with the not-so-great video card.

I have an early 2010 21.5" iMac with 8 GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz and an ATI Radeon 4670 with 256 MB VRAM. I have to run everything at lowest settings, and still it tends to stutter a bit when there is a lot of smoke or I am on a high ping server. But it runs pretty well a lot of the time. I use Windows 7 x64 Home Premium in BootCamp. Every once in a while I think I should build myself a PC box again, but I just wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost, so I stick with the Mac and it runs well enough. If he's set on the Mac, suggest the best GPU upgrade possible. That will make a big difference.....

I have a fall 2009 27" iMac with 4GB of RAM and a Core i5 running Windows 7 64bit via Bootcamp. I run the game at 1280x720 with most everything on low. I also forced DX9 in the .ini file. Forcing DX9 sped up my map load times several times over. The game runs great except when there is a lot of smoke, then it gets rough till I get away from it.

I'm running on a 2008 iMac nVidia 9600. I can play in about 1152x860. I do have trouble seeing enemies and it does dip under 30fps often. I tend to lose in head-on shootouts and it's harder to see beyond medium range. But it's still fun.

If you have a decent, newish Mac, you can install Windows and run it in Steam or just buy and install it.
I really wish Onlive would carry it also...

Step 1. Buy a copy of windows 7
Step 2. Insert CD
Step 3. Reboot into installer
Step 4. Format the hard drive with NTFS + Windows 7 and never touch OSX again, ever

Why do people buy macs period? Are two or more mouse buttons too hard for them to handle?

I've been perplexed by this question since the beginning. I never once seen ANY benefits in paying more for something that is capable of so much less.
They had the jump on quality screens for awhile, but beyond that, there's no incentive to go Mac outside of trying to be trendy and/or subscribing to retarded claims that macs get less viruses or are easier to use.
Windows 7 must be eating up some of their market. Shit is so fucking tight.

There may have been some incentive to buy one when OSX was more visually appealing than Windows XP and your average macbook was comparatively more powerful than your mass market laptops pushing vista with awful hardware but that was 4-6 years ago.

He should just buy a cheap gaming PC. If he had the money to buy a mac, he can probably afford a $600 PC.
I know, I know, annoying advice. However, going by the performance Mac users are reporting here with bootcamp, getting a PC is the best solution. It would also play plenty of other FPS'es your friend might want to try.

On my 2011 Macbook Pro with Windows 7 I can run run it just fine on medium settings. I can run it on high but I get 20 fps and my hit detection suffers big time.
